Job Summary:

The Baker/Donut Fryer reports to the Bakery Manager and is responsible for baking and frying product daily for customer enjoyment. The Baker/Donut Fryer will assist the Baker Lead by following recipes to deliver on Walt Churchill's Market high-quality baked goods. Expectations include making/preparing store-made items, including but not limited to: cookies, rolls, breads, donuts, and muffins, and assessing the quality of bakery products.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent customer service by getting customers promptly, answering questions, and assisting with purchases
  • Bake WCM Bakery items by following precise recipes and maintaining the quality that customers know and expect
  • Maintain product knowledge of Bakery items
  • Prioritize production to meet needs of Bakery Departments at both Briarfield and Perrysburg
  • Safely operate Bakery equipment, including but not limited to: ovens, mixer, fryers, donut hopper, and filter system
  • Consistently shape dough
  • Make, fry, ice, and finish donuts; make donuts from dough mix or frozen dough
  • Change fryer grease monthly, as directed by Bakery Manager
  • Assist in receiving and optimizing Bakery products in the department and the freezer
  • Organize and restock Baker supplies, communicating low stock with Bakery Manager
  • Maintain general sanitation practices, food safety practices, and food storage practices according to store and health department standards
  • Communicate with Bakery Management with regards to production schedules and product volume
  • Cleaning duties include sweeping, mopping, cleaning surfaces, washing dishes, and maintaining/cleaning all Baker equipment

The description listed above is that of a Baker 1. If your prior experience aligns with the Baker 2 responsibilities and requirements, you will have additional responsibilities as listed below:

  • Assist in training new Bakers to be successful in their position and as a team member
  • Weigh, measure, and mix raw ingredients
  • Prepare scratch-made items, including but not limited to: artisan breads, baguettes, cookies, and angel food cakes
  • Safely operate and clean equipment such as sheeter, dough press, and mixers

Schedule:

Baker/Donut Fryers typically work a shift that starts at 12am and ends at 8am. Ability to work weekends and holidays is required.

Requirements

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be able to adhere to an overnight/early morning schedule
  • Must have weekend and holiday availability
  • Multi-tasking, communication, and logical thinking skills
  • Ability to follow recipes & instructions
  • Willingness to learn and expand skillset
  • Comfortable working with the public and greeting, speaking with, and assisting customers
  • Attention to detail, ensuring duties are completed correctly and on time

Education & Experience:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Previous commercial baking experience, preferred
  • High school diploma or GED

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, twisting, lifting, bending, squatting, and reaching
  • Occasional instances of pushing and pulling
  • Must be able to frequently lift 10-50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 80 pounds
  • Ability to withstand working in both hot and cold environments, e.g. the Bakery Department and walk-in freezer
