THE ACCOUNTING CO-OP / INTERN OPPOURTUNITY Turner Construction’s Canada team is currently seeking students, recent graduates, or individuals interested in a 4- or 8-month Accounting Co-Op/Internship opportunity for the upcoming Fall 2026 semester. This full-time position (Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week) offers hands-on experience supporting active construction projects and operational finance activities. The role will be based in either our Downtown Vancouver or Toronto office, based on the candidate’s preferred work location. The Accounting Co-Op/Intern will build foundational knowledge in Operational Finance through training in accounting fundamentals, project finance concepts, and financial systems. The Accounting Co-Op/Intern will support day-to-day financial management activities across key accounting functions, including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General Ledger, Reconciliation, and Special Services. Responsibilities will also include contributing to data collection, reporting, and analysis while supporting process improvements related to budgeting, cost tracking, variance analysis, and operational performance metrics. In addition, the Accounting Co-Op/Intern will gain exposure to emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data tools, and explore how they can be used in finance to strengthen analysis, improve efficiency, and enhance reporting processes. As an Accounting Co-Op/Intern, you will: Engage with full participation and immersion of Intern Program, take ownership to fulfill learning requirements and assigned responsibilities, while coordinating with supervisors to effectively prioritize work, manage time, and ensure successful completion of program and project deliverables. Learn, understand, and apply Turner financial accounting processes, including construction accounting principles, earnings, and revenue recognition, with guidance from your supervisor. Follow company and Finance policies related to financial reporting, confidentiality, and data governance. Learn and develop skills related to effective communication, conflict resolution, taking direction, and teamwork. Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, clients, and business partners. Participate in training sessions, meetings, project site visits, and other learning opportunities provided through Intern Program. Review billing details against client contractual requirements for accuracy, review contracts and invoice backup for accurate accounts receivable. Assist with validating coding of project costs and comparing invoices and expenses to project cost coding structures. Support Shared Services Organization (SSO) with invoice processing tasks, verify subcontractor and vendor accounts status, including lien waivers and recoded costs to support accurate month-end work-in-place reporting. Assist with analyzing budgets and reallocating costs through preparation of journal entries and in support of month-end close process. Assist with monitoring project cash flow, including billings, collections, and payments, and prepare payments held reports to support team communication and visibility. Support under and overbilling analysis and participate in team meetings to support communication of project status. Gain exposure to Artificial Intelligence (AI) enabled tools and data analytics techniques to support financial analysis, reporting, and process efficiencies. Contribute to process improvement initiatives, identify opportunities to use AI technology and automation to standardize financial workflows, templates, and reports. Prepare ad hoc analyses and presentations to support financial reviews and management requests. Share periodic progress updates with your supervisor and engage in feedback conversations to support learning and professional growth. Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned. Is this the right role for you: Enrolled in a 2- or 4-year college or university offering accredited degree programs in Accounting, Finance, or related field of study with at least 1 year of completed coursework or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience Must be 18 years of age to work at a construction project site Must be willing to work a standard work week Basic understanding of General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) (e.g., journal entries, general ledger) Demonstrate interpersonal skills through leadership, campus involvement, or community activities Demonstrate interest in learning how finance supports real-world construction projects and business operations, including use of data and emerging technologies (e.g., Artificial Intelligence (AI)) Ability to take direction, actively listen, ask questions, and follow tasks through to completion within established deadlines Highly organized with attention to detail to accurately document and perform data entry Clear and professional verbal and written communication skills, English language required Self-motivated, proactive, and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment Able to work independently with guidance and collaboratively within a team Proficient computer skills, Microsoft Office suite of applications with intermediate Excel skills, and familiar with collaboration tools (e.g., Teams, SharePoint) Understand Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools desired, and demonstrate willingness to learn how to apply them to improve financial processes Some travel may be required, access to reliable transportation HOW TO START YOUR JOURNEY WITH TURNER CONSTRUCTION We’re always looking for talented individuals who align with our positive culture and are passionate about their work.
