Staff Lead Process Engineer

The Lead Process Engineer provides process engineering support for successful operation of assigned refinery process units, equipment/asset integrity, code and regulatory compliance and reliability. Provide direction to Unit Process Engineers and ensure all assigned Unit Process Engineers can support the refinery business teams. Work to develop projects, as well as execute projects and complex technical assignments to ensure safety, reliability, and integrity of unit operations. Serve as site-SME in all matters pertaining to process equipment performance and represent TRC during internal/external network and industry meetings.

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Use expertise and knowledge to facilitate guidance and vertical mentoring to the refinery organization on unit performance, as well as asset management while providing horizontal support to other areas within the Technical Services Department.
  • Provide technical support and expertise to all area teams throughout refinery in a collaborative manner so to solve complex process equipment reliability challenges.
  • Understand and work within project scope, logic, and economic aspects.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams and serve as a technical leader.
  • Assist in developing engineering standards.
  • Interact with assigned business teams to optimize performance of business unit and refinery.
  • Apply knowledge and experience to very complex problems using relevant information sources, including other departments.
  • Research projects and make evaluations and decisions as needed.
  • Apply economic evaluations such as cost savings, profit improvements and operational improvements that are implemented within the refinery or business unit.
  • Day-to-day troubleshooting and monitoring of units.
  • Issue regularly scheduled reports.
  • Support incident investigations.
  • Develop solutions for complex projects to meet objectives.
  • Mentor, develop and provide direction to process engineers.
  • Contribute to long range departmental planning and budgeting.
  • Serve as project manager on mid-range projects, directing others on the project team.
  • Schedule, plan, and control costs of projects within budget and schedule constraints.
  • Communicate project progress and results in a concise and understandable manner.
  • Participate in determining departmental assignment priority.
  • Support Process Safety Management Programs.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering required.
  • 10+ years of relevant job experience required.
  • Demonstrate progressive experience specializing in key technical areas.
  • Previous engineering experience in a refinery/petrochemical industry preferred.
