Associate Engineer - Rotating Equipment
The Associate Rotating Equipment Engineer provides engineering support for the refinery’s rotating machinery and ensures their assigned business team is supported from a reliability and technical perspective.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The Rotating Equipment Engineer is responsible for supporting their area business team on rotating equipment reliability issues and recommended repairs.
- Provide mechanical and technical support to the area business team and others throughout the refinery as needed including analysis of failed items and recommendations of design changes to prevent repeat failures under the guidance of a more experienced Engineer.
- Interact with assigned area business team to optimize refinery performance through troubleshooting and monitoring of process machinery and support systems.
- Monitor the implementation of machinery related reliability action items.
- Participate in Root Cause Failure Analysis initiatives.
- Serve as a safety champion throughout the refinery complex by ensuring full compliance to critical safety requirements including appropriate use of PPE, support of safe work practices and participate in all safety-related activities.
- Support Process Safety Management Programs.
- Responsible for the Management of Change (MOC) procedures for assigned mechanical changes.
LONG-TERM SUPPORT & LEADERSHIP (STRATEGIC RESPONSIBILITIES):
- The Rotating Equipment Engineer will work under the guidance of an experienced Engineer to set long-term rotating equipment reliability goals.
- Provide rotating equipment discipline engineering support to the capital and projects groups as required to ensure that equipment reliability, operability and maintainability are addressed.
- With guidance from an experienced Engineer, develop and maintain the Rotating Equipment Engineer critical equipment and bad actor list for their area business team.
- With guidance from an experienced Engineer, review technical and economic analysis of repairs to justify engineering improvement and recommended priorities.
COMMUNICATION RESPONIBILITIES:
- Maintain effective lines of communication across the refinery including the Fixed Engineering group, Maintenance, Operations, Process Engineering, etc.
- Ensure appropriate communication with Process Engineers, and Operations in predicting failures and proactively providing resolutions to reliability issues.
TURNAROUND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- With guidance from an experienced Engineer, participate in the Risk Based Work Selection (RBWS) process for turnaround scope development.
- With guidance from an experienced Engineer, ensure appropriate turnaround engineering package development support during scope development, as well as timely and accurate mechanical engineering solutions for outage discovery work.
REPORTING & DOCUMENTATION:
- Complete assigned Reliability Department Reports.
- Follow the program to maintain neat and orderly rotating equipment engineering files.
UNIT UPSETS & OUTAGES / MECHANICAL TROUBLESHOOTING:
- Provide rotating equipment engineering coverage during unit upsets and outages and ensure effective communication through accurate shift updates and shift turnover.
- Ensure appropriate regular updates are issued during shutdowns/startups, ongoing unit upsets and critical troubleshooting.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or other related engineering discipline required.
- Less than 2 years of relevant job experience.
- Knowledge of API standards such as API 610, 612, 613, 617, 618 etc. required.
- Knowledge of rotating equipment (pumps, centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, turbines, fans, and blowers) required.
