SUMMARY
The Temporary Exhibition Experience Host is a temporary position that supports a welcoming, safe, and engaging visitor experience during a special temporary artist exhibition. This temporary position serves as a visible and approachable presence within the museum spaces by assisting visitors with wayfinding, answering questions, supporting exhibition flow, interactive activities and helping create positive guest interactions. This position will serve as the principal point of contact within the show, helping to enhance the visitor experience through creative engagement, and will help bring the museum experience to life through hospitality, professionalism, and engagement with visitors of all backgrounds. This role is best suited for individuals who enjoy interacting with the public and creating positive visitor experiences. Candidates should demonstrate warm engaging presence and the ability to proactively assist and interact with visitors.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Welcomes and positively engages with guests in the temporary exhibition gallery while providing directions and information regarding the campus, permanent collection, special events, and special exhibitions and artists.
  • Responsible for assigned tasks associated with the temporary exhibition.
  • Provide clear messaging to visitors regarding the temporary exhibition.
  • Support visitor flow and occupancy within the temporary exhibition area(s).
  • Monitors and accurately reports capacity within the temporary exhibition.
  • Actively promotes Museum membership, special events, exhibitions, and merchandise while engaging visitors.
  • Conducts visitor surveys and records general visitor responses to the temporary exhibition.
  • Responsible for proactively identifying, troubleshooting, and de-escalating issues occurring in the galleries.
  • Works closely with Protective Services to ensure the safety of visitors and the collection; actively promotes the safety policies of the Museum.
  • Supports accessibility and inclusive visitor experiences.
  • Assist with special events associated with the temporary exhibition including member preview, evening programs, or high-volume visitation periods as assigned.
  • Represent the museum with professionalism, warmth and courtesy.
  • Attends mandatory training programs provided by the Art Museum.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
EXHIBITION-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Losing Ourselves Together: The Art of Bobby Anspach
In addition to the general responsibilities of the Temporary Exhibition Experience Host, individuals working the Losing Ourselves Together: The Art of Bobby Anspach exhibition will:
  • Guide visitors through immersive exhibition experiences using a standardized script and established procedures.
  • Create a welcoming, safe, calming, and supportive environment before, during, and after visitor participation.
  • Prepare, sanitize, reset, and monitor exhibition equipment and sensory materials between sessions.
  • Maintain an attentive presence within the installation and assist with visitor engagement, comfort, and questions throughout the experience.
  • Support smooth exhibition operations by collaborating with museum staff and partners as needed.
Additional qualifications for this exhibition include:
  • Comfortable speaking to individuals and small groups and delivering a scripted experience multiple times throughout the day.
  • Demonstrated empathy, patience, and strong interpersonal skills when interacting with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to remain calm, attentive, and professional while supporting visitors through potentially meaningful or emotional experiences.
  • Comfortable learning and operating basic exhibition technology and audio equipment.
  • Experience in education, customer service, hospitality, performance, facilitation, or museum environments is preferred.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in visitor service, hospitality, customer services or sales
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE, COMPETENCIES AND ABILITIES
  • Flexible work schedule required which will include hours on weekends and some evenings.
  • Exceptional verbal communication skills with the ability to facilitate positive dialogues with diverse audiences and build rapport with Museum visitors one-on-one or in groups.
  • Comfortable with interacting with diverse audiences in a public-facing environment.
  • Maintains an attentive and visible presence in the temporary exhibition space.
  • A commitment to providing current, accurate, and helpful information.
  • Ability to work as a collaborative team player who is able to adapt to meet shifting demands and priorities.
  • The ability to use Microsoft Office is a plus.
  • Willingness to engage in continuous learning about current temporary exhibitions, art and museum practices.
  • Strong observation and situational awareness abilities, including noticing unusual circumstances and situations requiring attention.
  • Deep interest in and experience with engaging and interacting with diverse visitors.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Position requires extensive physical mobility – must be able to stand, walk and move about multi-gallery posts during entire shift. Sound level in galleries varies from very quiet to noisy, depending upon activity level. Must be able to communicate verbally both person-to-person, electronically and by radio and visually observe all activity on assigned posts. Position may require ability to operate a variety of technologies, including familiarity with computers, monitors, kiosks, projectors, etc.; the person in this position frequently communicates with public, membership, and staff who have inquiries and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations; May occasionally lift up to 35 pounds.
