AREAS OF INTEREST: Graphic Design, Branding, Visual Storytelling, Exhibition Design, Spatial Design, Digital Media, Typography SUMMARY: This on-site, 8-week internship offers a 2026 undergraduate junior or senior level student the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in design execution and production workflows within an art museum environment. The Graphic Design Intern will contribute to a major institutional project focused on transforming gallery experiences, helping ensure that visual communication throughout the museum is clear, consistent, and engaging for visitors. Working closely with design and curatorial staff, the intern will support the creation and preparation of museum signage, object labels, and related visual elements and will assist with essential production tasks such as formatting layouts, preparing label files for installation, editing content for accuracy, and maintaining well-organized design assets. This role provides valuable exposure to the behind-the-scenes processes that bring exhibitions to life and shape the visual language of a museum. Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, highly organized, committed to maintaining design systems, and passionate about the role of design in cultural spaces. This internship offers a meaningful introduction to museum design operations and gives the student the chance to contribute to visitor experiences that help integrate art into the lives of people. RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to the Director of Design & Brand Creative Operations and collaborates closely with the Design & Brand Creative team members. Interacts with other departments such as Curatorial Affairs, Collections, Interpretation, etc. Interns may also have the opportunity to collaborate with Summer 2026 interns from other departments. ELIGIBILITY: Actively enrolled undergraduate college students in the year 2026. A minimum of 2 years of an undergraduate program completed prior to the start of the internship. This program is intended for students or early-career individuals who are not currently employed in a regular staff role. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Standard open concept office work environment with related phone, computer and printer noise; position requires stamina to stand for periods of time and the ability to leverage technology including computer, printer and phone systems; the person in this position may be required to communicate with public and staff who have inquiries and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. The person may be required to operate cutting tools and obtain accurate measurements. Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions when moving among buildings.
