Job Description

SUMMARY: Wonderful opportunity to join our Consumer Insights team as a Product Research Leader with a focus on connected products. Reporting to the Director of Consumer Insights the Senior User Researcher will lead research projects from beginning to end and be responsible for helping define and drive the future of our products.

In this role, the Senior Researcher will collaborate closely with category managers, designers, and engineers to develop new hardware, apps, and services within our connected products portfolio. By employing mixed research methods, the Senior Researcher will cultivate a deep understanding and empathy for user needs, exploring user behaviors and motivations to enhance the consumer experience. Additionally, the role involves analyzing and integrating qualitative and quantitative data to generate strategic and tactical insights, providing actionable recommendations that drive product design and innovation.

Location and Status: This is a full time hybrid position requiring in-office presence 3 days per week (Tue, Wed, Thu) with the ability to work from home on Mondays and Fridays. The successful candidate must live within a commutable distance to one of the following office locations:

  • Milwaukee/Oak Creek, WI
  • Chicago/Deerfield, IL
  • Maumee/Toledo, OH
  • North Olmsted/Cleveland, OH

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Primary Lead for Connected Products Research: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders across functions and levels to design and execute research that guides product development and refinement. This involves understanding strategies and needs, discovering roadblocks and critical issues, and prioritizing research to inform product innovation.
  • Design and Execute Complex Research Projects: Own the design and execution of a range of sophisticated research projects targeting consumers, trade, and other professional audiences to support product development and innovation initiatives.
  • Integrate Data into Insights Process: Combine primary and secondary data to develop compelling insights that inform strategic decisions.
  • Communicate and Advocate for Insights: Present and socialize actionable insights in a compelling and persuasive manner to drive decision-making.
  • Synthesize Research and External Information: Combine existing research with broader market and consumer trends, as well as secondary research, to identify actionable insights.
  • Subject-Matter Expert: Provide expertise in both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies and tools, translating research findings into actionable strategies.
  • Manage Research Budget: Oversee and manage the allocated budget for research projects and learning plans.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in efforts to enhance research tools, methodologies, and other solutions, supporting a best-in-class enterprise research and insights capability.
  • Deliver High-Quality Research Projects: Ensure research projects consistently meet the highest levels of customer satisfaction for internal clients, maintaining speed and accuracy in a dynamic environment.
  • Oversee Vendor Relationships: Monitor vendor performance, identify performance issues, and suggest remedies to maintain high standards.
  • Utilize Agile Project Management: Apply Agile principles to prioritize work and ensure the timely delivery of research projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree is required; a Master's Degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in product research, with mixed research methods expertise and hands-on experience leading end-to-end quantitative and qualitative studies.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with a wide range of traditional & UX research methodologies, including ethnography, value proposition, concept evaluation, positioning, segmentation & personas, pricing/discrete choice, and usability testing.
  • Experience owning all phases of research to inform product development, from foundational through evaluative stages.
  • Proven proficiency in applying quantitative and qualitative research methods to impact business decisions.
  • Skilled in online survey tools (i.e.. Qualtrics, Forsta) and UX research tools (i.e.. UserTesting); SPSS, Tableau or equivalent analytic software a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and troubleshoot a range of issues in high-pressure situations. Proficient in maintaining project plans, status updates, scheduling, and facilitating meetings with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills at all levels of the organization.
  • Reacts positively to change, shifts gears comfortably and displays a solutions driven approach
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with the ability to confidently and comfortably interact with all levels of management.
  • Proficient at project management including maintaining project plans, status updates, scheduling and facilitating meetings with both internal and external stakeholders.
