Job Description:

The University of Toledo (UToledo), located in the Glass City, has a long history of excellence in silicate sciences and photovoltaics. In coordination with a recent investment made by the State of Ohio to establish a Glass Innovation Hub in the Toledo region, the University is seeking to fill a senior level faculty position to revitalize the University’s research and scholarship in glass. The successful candidate will be a nationally recognized expert with a strong track record of creativity, accomplishments, and advancement in glass science, engineering, and/or technology. Partners in the Glass Innovation Hub include the Northwest Ohio Innovation Consortium (NOIC), O-I Glass, Owens Corning, First Solar, Libbey Glass, Pilkington North America, University of Toledo, Bowling Green State University, and CelSianUSA. UToledo’s Glass Professor will play a central role in collaborating and coordinating with these and other partners in advancing the Hub’s educational and research goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

Successful candidates will have a doctoral degree in chemistry, engineering, physics, material science or a related discipline, and a demonstrated record of success in one or more areas such as competitive grant and contract awards, leadership and impact within a corporation, generation of intellectual property, and a history of successful collaborations with glass industry and/or national lab scientific leaders. Superb communication and organizational skills, and the ability to contribute to graduate education and program development is expected.

Preferred Qualifications:

Well connected to federal agencies and/or scientific/engineering professional organizations.
Experience working with and connections to national laboratories.
Ability to immediately contribute to, and be funded by, research projects identified by NOIC Glass Hub proposal over a multi-year period.
Demonstrated experience leading a well-managed laboratory in full compliance with federal, university and/or industry standards.
