Job Description:

The Instrumentation Scientist will be responsible for the operation, training and maintenance of various scientific instrumentation, including but not limited to MALDI - Mass Spectrometer, Differential Scanning Calorimeter, Clinical Cryostat, X-ray Diffractometer and Dynamic Light Scattering located within the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics’ Instrumentation Center. The specialist will prepare and analyze samples submitted from both, University and industrial users. He/she will train, supervise and assist the users of these instruments including faculty, staff, and students within the University, as well as users from outside the University.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/experience/licensing:
• A minimum of a Ph.D. in a related scientific field
• Several years of experience working with several of the following: X-ray Diffraction, MALDI-MS, Differential Scanning Calorimetry, Differential Thermal Analysis instruments, microscopes and/or light scattering instruments
• Experience training users on instrumentation use
• Experience writing proposals for funding

Communication and other skills:
• Able to readily identify and communicate instrument malfunctions to necessary personnel
• Possesses organizational, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
• Proficient in data analysis, interpretation and reporting
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
