Job Description:

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is searching for an Assistant Professor who is either board certified or board eligible in Orthopaedic Surgery with a focus in Hand and Upper Extremity. This Position will assist the department with patient care, clinical activities, and education. The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery currently provides medical services to the community of NW Ohio and SE Michigan for all types of musculoskeletal conditions. The Department strongly focuses on collaboration on extensive medical research and education to acquire a greater understanding of the human skeletal system.

The mission of the Department is to enhance the effectiveness of surgical procedures and treatments from spinal injuries and disorders, sports medicine, hand and foot disorders, trauma/fixation, and more. The orthopaedic department at UToledo is one of the most published in the country. A team of highly skilled physicians, many of whom are known nationally, is complemented by a dedicated group of research faculty.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct patient care in orthopaedic surgery.
  • Instructs and mentors current medical students, residents, and fellows within the discipline of Orthopaedic Surgery.
  • Participates in conferences, conducts, and develops research grants and proposals.
  • Adhere to departmental policies, procedures and objectives, ongoing quality improvement objectives and safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all federal and state health information privacy laws.
  • Participate in the teaching programs of the Department of Medicine, the College of Medicine, and the University.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MD or equivalent required; successful completion of orthopedic surgery
  • Board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Orthopedics; focus in Hand and Upper Extremity
  • Current licensure in the State of Ohio required, prior to beginning the position.
  • Ability to successfully teach and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows. Experience collaborating with specialists to explore patient health conditions and diagnose health issues.
  • Experience working in a team of healthcare professionals and collaborating with them to ensure positive, effective patient experiences with our organization.
