The Toledo Clinic's Gastroenterology Department, located on Woodley Rd in Toledo, is seeking a full-time Procedure Scheduler/Scribe. This position will schedule various procedures and also scribe for the physician. The hours are Monday - Friday from 10:00am-7:00pm.

General Summary

Schedules procedures for the physician(s). Provides front office and clinical support in the office. Document physician dictated patient history, physical examination, family, social, and past medical history as well as document procedures, lab results, and any other information pertaining to the patient’s office visit.

Works under the supervision of the Assistant Office Manager.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Consistently arrives at work on time and adheres to regular work schedule.
  • Schedules procedures.
  • Schedules lab work, tests, x-rays, etc. for the patient.
  • Completes consent forms with the patient.
  • Contacts patients regarding appointment times.
  • Completes prior authorizations for procedures.
  • Performs front office duties (phones, appointments, patient check out, etc.).
  • Types correspondences, memos, and letters.
  • Scribes for providers while in exam room.
  • Consistently arrives at work on time and adheres to regular work schedule.
  • Accompany physician into the patient examination room in order to transcribe a history and physical exam, and document accurately the physician’s encounter with the patient and others present.
  • List all proper diagnoses and symptoms as well as follow up instructions and prescriptions as dictated by the physician.
  • Transcribe patient orders including laboratory tests, radiology tests, medications, etc.
  • Document any procedures performed by the physician.

Other Essential Duties May Include but Are Not Limited To

  • May perform clinical duties (rooms patients, vitals, assists with exams, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

Required:

  • Consistently arrives at work in appropriate/professional attire.
  • Completes all tasks within established time frame.
  • Adheres to all clinic policies and procedures.
  • Previous surgery/procedure scheduling experience or minimum of 2 years medical office experience along with a medical terminology course.
  • Excellent organizational skills and patience.
  • Seeks appropriate tasks when primary tasks are completed and assists co-workers as needed.
  • Demonstrates adaptability to expanded roles.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

Preferred:

  • Previous scheduling experience and clinical experience in a medical office.
  • Previous experience as a Scribe.
  • ABR-OE recognition.
