The Toledo Clinic Ophthalmology Department is seeking a part-time Certified Ophthalmic Tech (COT or COA). Qualified candidates will have previous experience and the COT or COA certification.

The hours are Monday (8-5) and Wednesday (8-1) with some Friday hours as needed.

General Summary:

Assists the physician with patient examinations and care.

Works under the supervision of the Office Manager.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

Example of Essential Duties:

  1. Prepare patients for physician (history, chart readiness, etc.)
  2. Perform visual acuity, neutralization of glasses, VF's, color vision and refractometry.
  3. Verify medication.
  4. Assist with minor office procedures.
  5. Accurately enter patient information into the electronic medical record.
  6. Scribe for the physician.
  7. Clean, prepare and stock exam rooms.
  8. Instill dilating drops.
  9. Clean and insert contact lenses.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

Required:

- Knowledge of medical terminology and excellent communication skills required.

- Consistently arrives at work, in professional attire, on time and completes all tasks within established time frame.

- Seeks appropriate tasks when primary tasks are completed and assists co-workers as needed.

- Demonstrates adaptability to expanded roles.

- Adheres to all Toledo Clinic policies and procedures.

Education:

2 year Associates degree, C.O.A, or C.O.T.

Preferred:

- Minimum of 3 years of Ophthalmology Tech. experience preferred.
