This is a contingent position within our Secor Rd. location. This hours will vary based on the needs of the department

General Summary:

The Pathology Lab Aide will assist in various administrative and technical tasks within the pathology laboratory, ensuring smooth operations and efficient workflow. This role involves handling specimen processing, administrative duties, and providing support to laboratory staff as needed.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

Example of Essential Duties:

  1. Performs a variety of clerical duties such as answering the telephone, maintaining records, referencing inquiries from other departments, communicating with external staff or sources or relaying messages to the appropriate personnel.
  2. Aid grossing technician during specimen accessioning as required.
  3. Prepare and package specimens for shipment to reference laboratories.
  4. Enter clinical information into the laboratory information system (LIS) as needed.
  5. Ensure proper documentation and labeling of files for easy retrieval.
  6. Organize the lab, binders, and storage unit.
  7. Perform light transcription tasks such as entering dictated pathology reports into the LIS.
  8. Assist the grossing technician by contacting other departments regarding any discrepancies with specimens.
  9. Send and track all consults/second opinions/additional stains sent out to other labs.
  10. File patient blocks and slides for storage.
  11. Loading and unloading staining instrumentation as needed, with guidance from senior staff.
  12. Faxes information and path reports to physician offices and clinics as requested.
  13. Proof read pathology reports.
  14. Flexibility to support various laboratory functions based on operational needs.
  15. Employees may be required to perform other job-related duties as required by their supervisor.

- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., MS Office suite, LIS).

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience:

Previous experience in a healthcare or laboratory setting is advantageous.
