As a Corporate Safety Officer, you will lead and support a comprehensive safety program across both field and office environments, taking ownership from strategy through daily execution.
The Corporate Safety Officer is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving a company-wide safety program that supports a diverse workforce, including field inspectors, survey crews, SUE technicians, materials testing staff, vacuum truck crews, and office personnel. This role partners closely with operations and leadership to ensure safety is embedded in all aspects of project delivery, regulatory compliance is maintained, and a proactive safety culture is sustained across the organization.

What are the core responsibilities for the role?

• Develop, implement, and maintain a corporate safety program aligned with organizational goals and civil engineering operations
• Partner with leadership and project teams to integrate safety into planning, design, and field execution across survey, SUE, materials testing, and construction management services
• Support field operations by establishing safety standards for activities such as utility locating, subsurface utility engineering, surveying, materials testing, and vacuum excavation
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including laboratory and radiation safety requirements where applicable
• Conduct job hazard analyses, risk assessments, and develop mitigation strategies for field, laboratory, and office environments
• Oversee incident reporting, investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action tracking
• Monitor and analyze safety performance metrics to identify trends and drive continuous improvement
• Develop and deliver safety training programs for field crews and office staff, including onboarding and recurring training, with specialized content for survey operations, lab safety, and radiation safety as needed
• Perform safety audits, field observations, and site inspections across job sites, labs, and office locations to ensure adherence to company standards
• Collaborate with operations and fleet teams to promote safe use and maintenance of vehicles, vacuum trucks, survey equipment, and testing apparatus
• Support emergency response planning and incident preparedness across all offices, labs, and job sites
• Promote a culture of safety through consistent communication, coaching, and visible leadership
• Maintain accurate safety documentation, reports, and compliance records, including any required laboratory or radiation safety documentation
• Evaluate and implement safety tools, systems, and best practices to enhance performance
• Serve as a point of contact for regulatory agencies, clients, and internal stakeholders regarding safety matters

Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies:

• Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, engineering, environmental science, or related field preferred
• 5 to 10 years of safety experience, preferably within civil engineering, construction, or field services
• Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety standards related to construction, utility work, and laboratory environments
• Familiarity with risks associated with confined spaces, radiation safety, and heavy equipment
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement safety programs
• Strong communication, training, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to influence teams and build relationships across multiple levels of the organization
• Analytical skills with experience using data to improve safety performance
• Relevant certifications such as CSP, CHST, ASP, or radiation safety-related credentials are preferred
• Experience supporting a range of field operations, including survey, SUE, materials testing labs, and office environments (Preferred)
• Experience with SUE operations, utility locating, surveying, materials testing, or vacuum excavation services (Preferred)
• Knowledge of DOT regulations and fleet safety programs (Preferred)
• OSHA 500 Certification (Preferred)
• Background in consulting engineering or infrastructure services firms (Preferred)
