What are the core responsibilities for the role?

  • Perform daily field inspections to ensure construction activities comply with project plans, specifications, and applicable standards
  • Monitor contractor work for quality, safety, and adherence to project requirements
  • Document construction activities through detailed daily reports, photographs, and quantity tracking
  • Verify materials used and work performed meet project and regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate with Construction Managers, engineers, and contractors to address field issues and clarify design intent
  • Review and track quantities for pay applications and maintain accurate records
  • Observe and document testing activities (e.g., compaction, concrete, asphalt) and ensure compliance with specifications
  • Identify non-conforming work and communicate deficiencies to appropriate parties for resolution
  • Attend and support project meetings, providing updates on field progress and issues
  • Assist with project closeout activities, including punch lists and final inspections
  • Maintain a strong commitment to safety and follow all established safety protocols

Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3–6 years of construction inspection experience, preferably in transportation or infrastructure projects
  • Working knowledge of construction methods, materials, and inspection practices
  • Experience with DOT or public agency projects is preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and standard drawings
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and make sound field decisions within established guidelines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and construction documentation software
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., ACI, ATSSA, LabCAT, OSHA) are preferred or ability to obtain
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
