CME Associates is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our growing team in East Brunswick, NJ. In this role, you will oversee the design and implementation of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection, across a wide range of projects such as county and municipal facilities, schools, water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants, and other infrastructure developments.

This is an opportunity to step into a high-impact leadership role, working closely with clients while mentoring a team of junior engineers and helping drive projects from design through construction.

What You’ll Work On

Projects span a range of public and institutional facilities, including HVAC system upgrades, fire protection and plumbing systems, and mechanical improvements for schools, municipal buildings, and infrastructure facilities.

You’ll help bring several active projects across the finish line while also contributing to new designs and future initiatives, working closely with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Responsibilities

Mechanical System Design
  • Conduct feasibility studies to evaluate project requirements, technical constraints, and cost implications.
  • Lead the design of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems
  • Perform system sizing, load calculations, and equipment selection
  • Prepare drawings, specifications, and construction documents
Project Leadership
  • Manage multiple projects at various stages of completion
  • Coordinate closely with architects, civil engineers, and electrical engineers
  • Serve as a key technical contact for clients and project partners
Construction & Implementation
  • Review shop drawings, equipment submittals, and contractor documentation
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to evaluate system conditions
  • Support commissioning, troubleshooting, and final system performance
Team Mentorship
  • Provide technical guidance to junior mechanical engineers
  • Support quality control and knowledge sharing across the team

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience
  • Strong experience designing HVAC systems
  • Experience with plumbing and fire protection systems
  • Experience working on municipal, institutional, or infrastructure projects
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate with clients and contractors
Preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (NJ preferred)
  • Experience with AutoCAD or Revit
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE and NFPA codes
  • Experience with facility upgrades, school renovations, or treatment facilities
