Churchill Consulting Engineers is seeking a highly motivated Highway Engineer to join our team in Berlin, NJ. The ideal candidate will have at least 5+ years of industry experience in highway design and transportation engineering. An Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is required, while a Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred. Candidate should have experience using one or more of the following: AutoCAD Civil3D, MicroStation InRoads, Power InRoads. Experience with design and plan production within MicroStation InRoads or Power InRoads is also preferred.

As a Highway Engineer, you will work on a variety of transportation infrastructure projects, including roadway design, intersection improvements, and safety enhancements. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to impactful projects and grow within a well-established consulting firm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Highway and Roadway Design: Develop highway alignments and profiles, typical sections, and cross-sections in accordance with NJTA, NJDOT and AASHTO standards.
  • Project Coordination: Collaborate with project managers, clients, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure project objectives are met efficiently and within budget.
  • Safety Improvements and Maintenance and Protection of Traffic: Evaluate existing roadways for safety improvements, including existing signage and striping. Develop the MPT needs for construction projects to manage traffic flow safely during construction, including barrier placement, construction signage, and temporary striping.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure designs comply with NJTA, NJDOT, AASHTO, and local transportation agency regulations.
  • Plan Development and Software Utilization: Prepare technical reports, plans using CAD software, with preference for MicroStation, specifications, and cost estimates in accordance with NJTA and NJDOT standards.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 5+ years of industry experience in highway design or transportation engineering.
  • Certification: EIT required, PE license preferred (or ability to obtain in the near future).
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MicroStation InRoads or Power InRoads (preferred) or other CAD software for roadway design.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with NJTA, NJDOT, and AASHTO design standards and guidelines.
