As the SUE Crew Chief, you will be responsible for leading the field effort for various Underground Utility designating & locating projects.

Your Primary Responsibilities will include

  • Locate underground utilities using non-destructive methods, including electromagnetic induction (EMI) and ground penetrating radar (GPR).
  • Operate vacuum excavation trucks and related equipment (e.g., air compressors, vacuum hoses, air lances, jackhammers, concrete saws, pogo-tampers, hand tools).
  • Perform utility mark-outs, surveying tasks, and subsurface utility engineering (SUE) field activities with minimal supervision.
  • Document field data accurately through sketches, photos, spreadsheets, daily reports, and written summaries.
  • Read and interpret technical documents.
  • Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting on vacuum excavation systems and field equipment.
  • Train on safe operation and maintenance of vehicles and tools in accordance with company safety standards.
  • Support and mentor junior field staff as needed.
  • Assist senior team members with project coordination involving clients, agencies, subcontractors, and design teams.
  • Maintain high standards of quality control and attention to detail in all aspects of fieldwork.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate reliability, initiative, and the ability to work independently while knowing when to seek guidance.
  • Approach tasks with a strong sense of urgency and accountability.

What you'll need

  • High school diploma or GED is strongly preferred.
  • Five (5+) years as SUE Technician I, Private Utility Locator, or related experience.
  • Basic knowledge of Land Surveying. (optional)
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Positive, “can-do” attitude.
  • Ability to work outside in all seasons and conditions.
  • Ability to walk, kneel, squat, and stand.
  • Ability to lift 60lbs.
  • Ability/willingness to travel for work assignments, including overnight assignments.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and random thereafter.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is required.
  • Must be able to pass Military / Government Background checks.
