As a Roadway Design Engineer in the DRMP Roadway Group, you will independently plan, design, organize, and recommend roadway design solutions for NCDOT, County and municipal roadway improvement projects. Your assignments may include a diverse variety of transportation-related projects such as new alignment, widening, milling and resurfacing, bicycle & pedestrian, highway safety, intersection, interchange and design-build projects across all phases of a project life from advanced planning to final design. Your Primary Responsibilities will include

  • Perform engineering design including horizontal alignments, vertical alignments, 3D modeling and cross-sections, pavement design, and temporary traffic control plans, quantities, and cost estimates.
  • Preparing of project documentation including Typical Section Packages, Pavement Design Package, Design Variations and Exceptions, Estimated Quantity Reports, and Project Meeting minutes.
  • Assist Project Managers and Senior Engineers with roadway design task production and maintaining project documentation.
  • Conduct engineering investigations and planning work by completing well-defined tasks including collection and analysis of data
  • Perform routine calculations and participate in evaluating the feasibility of alternate solutions.

What you'll need

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
  • Must possess Fundamentals of Engineering (EI) certification or ability to obtain within six months.
  • 0 - 4 years of transportation design experience.
  • Familiarity with NCDOT production procedures is preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with Bentley’s MicroStation and Open Roads Designer preferred.
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented team player with an ability to contribute to a positive work environment.
