Position Summary

Responsible for the supervision of nursing students in a clinical or campus laboratory setting under the direction of the course faculty. The nursing adjunct instructor is responsible for all experiences for nursing students in a clinical or laboratory setting involving the delivery of nursing care to an individual or group of individuals during the nursing student’s clinical or laboratory experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implements clinical or laboratory outcomes within the framework of the course in which the student is enrolled, in conjunction with the course faculty.
  • Communicates clinical or laboratory objectives to the student, preceptor, and the staff at the clinical site.
  • Provides orientation for each student to the environment of the clinical site or laboratory environment.
  • Makes assignments consistent with the specific objectives or outcomes of the course in which the student is enrolled.
  • Provides supervision of each student in accordance with rule 4723-5-20 of the Administrative Code.
  • Provides input for evaluation of the student’s experience, achievement, and progress in relation to the clinical/laboratory objectives.
  • Attends nursing faculty meetings and committee meetings as requested.
  • Maintains competence in area of expertise.
  • Maintains availability to students by telephone and/or appointment to answer questions and provide assistance.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to effectively communicate one-on-one, in small groups, and in classroom situations.
  • Proficient in word-processing and presentation software, internet, and e-mail.
  • Proficient with learning management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of students.
  • Demonstrated ability to advise students.
  • Effective verbal, written, and listening communication skills.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work a combination of days/evening/weekend schedules.

Education and/or Work Experience:

  • Completion of an approved professional nursing education program.
  • Experience for at least two years in the practice of nursing as a registered nurse.
  • A baccalaureate degree in nursing required; enrollment in a graduate level course of a program for a registered nurse to master’s degree with a major in nursing preferred for clinical positions. Master’s degree in nursing to teach in laboratory.
  • Current active licensure as a registered nurse in Ohio required.


Certificates and Licenses:

  • Current active license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Ohio required.
  • CPR certification required
  • Specialty certification in area of expertise is preferred but not required.
  • ACLS/PALS/BTLS/ATLS certification as required by specialty area.
