Overview

SSOE is looking for a Department Manager to lead the Process Engineers in the Industrial Chemical Division. The department provides resources in process, chemical and mechanical engineering. This candidate will have good communication skills and will be responsible for resource management, hiring, recruiting performance management and support training and career development. The position requires collaboration with other department managers within the Process Operation and across the company.

Responsibilities

The following duties are typical of the position, but are not all encompassing. Responsibilities include those required to deliver quality service on schedule and within budget in a team environment.

  • Lead, manage, coaches, directs, coordinates, facilitates and supervises department staff. This includes all evaluation and employee relations responsibilities: manpower planning/staffing, hiring, career growth, training, development and promotion.
  • Communicate resource management situations to Division and Operational Management regularly.
  • Ensures the technical competency and quality of work performed by staff while confirming compliance with industry standards. Licensed individuals may be required to seal discipline documents.
  • Provide guidance, technical oversight and issue resolution within the department.
  • Develops, organizes and implements discipline and departmental standards, recordkeeping, and improvements.
  • Responsible for establishing, monitoring and meeting financials objectives. Implements strategic activities within department to achieve objectives of operations unit and corporate business.
  • Supports customer maintenance and business development activities and assists in preparing proposals, and making presentations.
  • Support process and corporate initiative rollout to the department.
  • Prepares and monitors project work schedules and projected workload schedules for department.
  • Provides staffing, current tools, and technical reference materials such that the department can meet project requirements.
  • Identifies strengths and weaknesses of department personnel to identify and prioritize training needs. Develops and implements department training program with the assistance of the Training and Development Department.
  • Travel required.
  • Valid driver's license required. May be waived for international assignments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering in the chemical or mechanical discipline with minimum ten (10) to twelve (12) years practical work experience.
  • Three (3) to five (5) experience managing people or project resource teams.
  • 15 years of experience in client/program management in the chemical or industrial process industry.
  • Business development experience in the chemical or industrial process industry.
  • Experience working in engineering consulting is preferred.
  • Professional Engineering Registration preferred.
  • Salary Range: $125,000-$155,000/year depending on location, education, experience, and any certifications that are directly related to the position.
