The Staff Accountant facilitates the efficient operation of the Finance Department by performing a variety of accounting tasks. This role also participates significantly in accounts payable, data entry and report generation tasks necessary for the monthly financial close process.
Duties / Responsibilities:
- Conducts routine data entry of vendor invoices and credit notes into accounts payable module
- Reviews invoices prior to entry for accuracy, approval, and appropriate general ledger classification
- Works with vendors on questions relating to invoices
- Performs detailed review of employee expense reports
- Works closely with Accounts Payable Manager on AP projects and initiatives
- Backs up total company payment runs, once established and trained in the role
- Reconciles corporate credit cards on a monthly basis
- Assists in the month end close process by reconciling certain general ledger accounts
- Generates reporting at month end for review by the Controller
- Performs data analysis in Excel using functions like v-lookup, pivot tables, etc.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by Controller or CFO
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Applicable experience or college degree preferred
Required Skills
- Applicant must be reliable and highly organized
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Knowledge of administrative and clerical tasks
- Desire to learn and understand company procedures
- Ability to efficiently operate a 10-key calculator or equivalent and other related office equipment
- Basic mathematical skills
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Applicable accounts payable experience or college degree preferred
