Description

JOB SUMMARY

Plans, lays out and performs progressive machining and assembling operations using all types of typical machine tools involving a variety of difficult setups and machining methods to produce parts in accordance with specifications and to close tolerances.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Conceptualizes and builds necessary tooling and fixtures to expedite and ensure accurate machining of parts and assemblies used in the operation.
  • Selects proper tooling for the job; grinds all cutting tools select speeds and feeds according to the type of material, finish requirements, and expeditious completion of the job.
  • Machines simple and/or complex parts from samples of prints using a variety of machining methods, tools and measuring devices.
  • Machines various details on parts such as pins, shafts, pulleys, yokes, bushings, etc.
  • Assembles machine parts when called for by type of work using methods including welding, braising, soldering and other joining techniques.
  • Machines raw castings, forgings, moldings or fabrication to duplicate sample, or to specifications called for using necessary tools and devices.
  • Duplicates replacement parts and modifies parts or adapts to special use.
  • Detects faulty operation or defective material and diagnosis and corrects as necessary.
  • Follows all Spangler Candy safety/sanitation policies and procedures.
  • Supports the organization’s commitment to ensure that our food safety and quality plans conform to all regulatory requirements and with food quality and safety requirements of our customers and report any problems or potential problems observed concerning food safety and quality to Supervision immediately.
  • Keeps work area clean and orderly.
  • Oils/greases machinery and performs preventative maintenance as required.
  • Maintains machine tools worked with.
  • Consults with supervision or suggest ways to facilitate construction or repairs.
  • Performs and completes other work as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Minimum of High School education.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Good vision, color vision, hearing, speaking and finger dexterity skills as well as ability to perform close work. Ability to work under time pressure, sit, stand, walk, stoop, climb, kneel, reach, push, pull, use a keyboard, lift and/or carry up to approximately 70 lbs.

MINIMUM MENTAL OR COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS

Ability to read, write, follow instructions, perform mathematical calculations and draw conclusions from a visual and/or physical inspection of equipment or materials. Minimum education is equivalent to an apprenticeship with several years’ experience in other machine shops. Must be able to read and work from blueprints, have knowledge of materials, usage, treatment, and application, use all types of typical machine tools, use those unique to this shop and use all types of measuring devices and gauges. Accepts training and maintains the skills necessary to meet new and changing technology.

WORK DEVICES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT

Lathes, mills, drill presses, welding equipment, flashlight, lift, grinder, tape measure, blow torches, material handling equipment, miscellaneous hand, and power tools, saws, steel, computer, and all required PPE.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Exposed to heat, dust, dirt, fumes, chemicals, vibrations, and noise. Occasionally exposed to burns, cuts, falls, pinch point, sprains, and strains.
