JOB SUMMARY

Cleans and maintains plant and related facilities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Disconnects and disassembles process equipment for cleaning; uses special cleaning tools, solvents, other chemicals and methods prescribed to clean and sanitize; oils equipment to prevent rust; reassembles equipment.
  • Washes moving process equipment with forced hot water or steam as required.
  • Boils out coils in cookers using special chemical solutions. Thoroughly rinses coils and periodically performs color checks.
  • Washes and mops floors, cleans white line areas and dry mops floors, vacuums as required. Washes windows, walls ceilings and doors. Removes waste and scrap containers, cleans waste containers and operates bailer compactor.
  • Cleans, maintains and makes minor repairs to sanitation equipment as required, using basic maintenance tools including checking oil, water levels and recharge batteries as required.
  • Uses powered scrubbing equipment, scrubs floors throughout the plant and warehouses as required. Obtains, mixes and maintains cleaning solution and cleans scrubbing equipment as necessary. Reports needed scrubber maintenance to supervisor.
  • Cleans floors including white lines, walls, windows, partitions, sinks and doors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, washing, and using other cleaning methods as may be required throughout the manufacturing, maintenance and warehouse areas.
  • Empties trash containers in restrooms and other areas as directed.
  • Cleans restrooms, rest areas, and locker areas.
  • Empties various scrap and trash containers throughout the plant. Operates bailer and compactor.
  • Cleans manufacturing areas as directed including various production accessories. May use forced hot water or steam as required.
  • Disassembles, cleans and reassembles equipment.
  • Picks up string, sticks, slip sheets, pallets, cardboard, and other debris by hand (including outside).
  • Cleans all truck pits and other areas not covered by power equipment, removing all unnecessary items.
  • Follows all Spangler Candy safety/sanitation policies and procedures.
  • Supports the organization’s commitment to ensure that our food safety and quality plans conform to all regulatory requirements and with food quality and safety requirements of our customers and report any problems or potential problems observed concerning food safety and quality to Supervision immediately.
  • Obtains supplies and materials from stock as necessary and keeps sanitation area neat, clean and orderly.
  • Performs and completes other work as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Minimum of High School education.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Good vision, hearing, color vision, speaking, finger dexterity skills and ability to perform close work. Ability to work under pressure, stand, walk, sit, stoop, climb, kneel, reach, push, pull, lift and/or carry up to approximately 50 lbs.

MINIMUM MENTAL OR COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS

Ability to read, write, complete basic math activities (to weigh/measure material and report production/maintenance information, and follow instructions (including bloodborne pathogen procedures). Ability to draw conclusions from a visual and or physical inspection.

WORK DEVICES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT

Brooms, mops, mop bucket, squeegees, hand hoist, bailer, trash compactor, hand floor scrubber, shovels, steam hoses, pressure washing system, lifts, putty knives, box knives, brushes, scrub pads, dustpans, rags, boots, sponges and required PPE.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Exposed to seasonal conditions/temperature fluctuations, dust, dirt, fumes, chemicals, dampness, vibrations, noise and cramped areas. Occasionally exposed to burns, cuts, falls, pinch points, sprains and strains.
