Sauder Woodworking Co is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to provide development and technical support for technical systems and their interaction with our manufacturing processes within Sauder Building Products. Systems include but are not limited to: CNC Work Centers, Measurement Systems, and Data Analytics.
There are many areas with project opportunities for the incoming Manufacturing Systems Engineer. The opportunities are split between the manufacturing systems engineers based on skills, experience, and desire to work on the projects. Some of those opportunities are:
- Robot System – work with pick and place robotic systems. Integration of vision to identify part location for effective picking.
- RPA Support – Develop and maintain robotic process automations.
- Panel Yield Analysis – Assist in analysis for continued board yield improvement. Working as part of a team to identify new yield improvement opportunities.
- Test Software for Vision or AI – Test software capabilities of artificial intelligence on images and determine how/if it can be used in the company.
- Analytics for Manufacturing – Such as boring machine optimization to improve setup time by grouping orders with similar boring.
- CAD System Integration – Generation of BOM from CAD data. CAD/CAM integration for CNC equipment.
- Metric Support/Development – Understand and support metrics related to panel yield.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works with department personnel across the company as well as outside vendors to provide technical support for program development, data collection, and control and detection systems.
- Develops and maintains subject matter expertise on IoT, vision, artificial intelligence, data management, and other emerging technologies that may impact manufacturing.
- Provide solutions and application training to Process Specialist and Core Competency groups.
- Gain intimate knowledge of manufacturing - machines, equipment, processes, and systems.
- Maintains an organized project portfolio and prioritization methodology and keeps detailed project records. Creates and presents reports on activity and results from selected elements of this portfolio.
- Participates in active problem solving on escalated pillar system issues, including the use of standard tools such as the A3, investigation forms, timelines, fishbone diagrams, etc.
- Lead experimentation using new technologies to determine feasibility within Sauder processes.
- Participates in the process of developing new specifications and standards relative to the equipment purchased, built, and used by Sauder.
- Develops and maintains a working knowledge of the industry and the latest methods and materials being developed and deployed.
- Performs programming, debugging, and analysis in system level applications.
- Develops methods to integrate data from existing, but separate systems. (i.e. Engineering model, Polyworks, SAP, Machine controls….)
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, EE Degree, Industrial, or Systems Engineering Degree - or 5 years of experience
- Background in software coding - Microsoft Excel VBA, Python, VB.Net, Siemens PLC Programming or similar
- Robotic experience - Preferred, but not required.

PAY SUMMARY
Expected offer range: $63,000-$84,000/year. The actual salary will be based on factors such as relevant experience and skills. The max salary listed is not the top of the salary band.
