As a Co-op in our Electrical Department you will gain a basic understanding of the duties of a Project Manager / Estimator and observe the construction process in the field and office. You will have the opportunity to shadow a Project Manager during a project and participate in the following activities:
Safety
• GEM safety orientation
• Jobsite audits
• Customer / Site-specific training
Administrative Items
• Plotting drawings
• Drawing / document control
• As-built drawings
• RFI process
Proposal Phase
• Participate in develoment of proposals
• Learn to do a take-off
• Attend bid openings (public bid work)
Costing
• Review field labor
• Track delivered materials
Project Meetings
• Pre-planning
• Cost reviews
Subcontractor Management
• Labor management - goal setting and tracking
• Equipment tracking
• Material management
You will also gain an understanding of how the office, field, fab-shop and CAD departments team up to complete a successful project by spending time with a mentor as well as spending time in each department learning how it works.
