PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The User Experience (UX) Strategist leads the ideation, evaluation, and implementation of user experiences across various digital domains, products, and audiences. Collaborating with product owners, business stakeholders, and development teams, they ensure products meet user needs and business objectives. As a key part of the Owens Corning digital strategy, the UX Strategist conducts user research to develop market-back strategies and leads an agile design process to quickly act on opportunities. They develop user personas and customer journeys, facilitate workshops using human-centered design, and connect emerging technologies with customer needs. By using an agile, test-and-learn approach combined with analytics, they identify valuable solutions and prioritize initiatives focusing on impact and outcomes. The UX Strategist manages a team of UX contractors, ensuring alignment with priorities, owns a portion of our design system and works with developers to promote reusable components and speedy delivery. They also collaborate with product owners and business leaders to leverage digital strategies, advocate for a user-centered roadmap, and communicate the rationale behind various deliverables to the UX team.

Reports to: User Experience Lead

Span of Control: Individual Contributor, but may lead team of external contractors to include:

  • Interaction / Visual Designers (2-4)
  • Web Analytics Specialist (1-2)
  • Web Accessibility Specialist (1-2)

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Knowing Our Businesses and their Strategies

  • Provide guidance and have knowledge of the required processes and tasks necessary to bring business needs to implemented solutions
  • Work collaboratively with others to understand business requirements but also participate in conversations around best implementation practices for a given solution
  • Assist in developing solutions that meet business needs and add value

UX Design and Strategy

  • Ensure that all OC user experiences are useful, usable, and delightful.
  • Define, either directly or through overseeing the work of others, the end-user experience for all initiatives and products within an assigned domain.
  • Collaborate, build, and roadmap a portion of our design system ensuring the highest quality UI components are optimized for accessibility, re-use, and flexibility.
  • Maintain OC brand standards collaborating directly with our brand and marketing teams.
  • Develop and own user personas and customer journey maps for key workflows and customer types within a portfolio.
  • Oversee and orchestrate the work of UX Specialists to deliver on key initiatives.
  • Develop close working relationships with other UX Strategists, Digital Developers, Agile Release Managers, and Product Owners.
  • Advocate for an agile mindset within the team.

UX Influence and Advocacy

  • Develop high-trust, collaborative relationships with Product Owners.
  • Use influence to advocate for user-centered product roadmaps.
  • Align work of UX team with top initiatives in the assigned portfolio.
  • Leverage data to influence the team and stakeholders towards high-impact, low-effort initiatives.
  • Advocate for UX work with new teams, helping build enterprise-wide UX acumen through training and consulting.

Talent Development

Continuous Improvement of UX Processes

  • Relentless focus on excellence within the UX team.
  • Leverage data to identify opportunity areas within the UX team to be more efficient and proactive.
  • Lead conversations around capability growth and improvement within the UX team to foster a team mindset of continuous improvement.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, competitive developments, best practice research and other related information that would prove valuable to improving Owens Corning’s digital presence

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience in a field related to User Experience or resume of previous, qualified work experience
  • Digital Portfolio of prior UX work, including personas, journey maps, designs/wireframes, and/or research
  • 3 to 5 years of experience working on digital experiences, including web / mobile applications, websites, or other digital products.
  • Prior experience in an agile development environment

  • Leading high performing team (direct or indirect) by setting clear expectations, coaching, and inspiring
  • Proven success within a global business environment with multiple lines of business

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Superior presentation skills, including excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills
  • Broad understanding of UX principles and techniques
  • Demonstrated capability to coordinate the work of multiple UX specialists to deliver on an objective
  • Enthusiastic personality, able to overcome adversity and setbacks with perseverance and positive attitude
  • Ability to work with diverse project teams and across functional areas
  • Ability to inclusively lead brainstorming exercises to address complex business or user challenges
  • Highly organized, flexible and able to structure and estimate work
  • Proven success in building trusted, value-added relationships within the businesses and functions; ability to partner effectively with business leaders and gain consensus of objectives and outcomes
