Advertised Position Title:
Laboratory Faculty, Skills and Human Patient Simulator
Essential Functions:
- Supervises and provides input to students during open laboratory times in the practice of skills.
- Evaluates students’ skills using written criteria in nursing curricula. Collaborates with the laboratory coordinator for students in need of remediation, referral, and scheduling of make- ups.
- Informs laboratory coordinator and faculty of student deficiencies/difficulties related to skill acquisition.
- Assists with tracking student open laboratory attendance, skill competency evaluations, and the recording of statistics.
- Provides orientation to new full time lab faculty and part time laboratory assistants to the day to day operations of the various laboratory settings.
- Prepares equipment, supplies, visual aids, and physical set up and tear down for laboratory activities in the various laboratory settings.
- Participates in the review and update of all laboratory activities.
- Assists college laboratory instructors as needed during scheduled college laboratory activities.
- Participates in end of semester course meetings with faculty and laboratory staff and provides input regarding the clinical and/or laboratory components of the course.
- Collaborates with faculty in the use of simulation and simulators in the various nursing courses.
- Maintains knowledge of mannequin functioning and regular maintenance. Provides necessary troubleshooting when needed. Communicates issues to the assistant chair of laboratory operations.
- Assists with simulation demonstrations for individuals, internal and external groups.
- Assists with inventory in the various laboratory settings.
- Advises laboratory coordinator regarding laboratory equipment in need of repair, maintenance or updating as well as needed equipment, supplies and materials.
- Performs other duties related to the laboratory components of the program (e.g., operates mannequins and participates in simulation role-playing and debriefing).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of Registered Nursing basic and advanced skills.
- Knowledge of teaching strategies to teach Nursing skills.
- Knowledge of National Patient Safety Standards.
- Knowledge of the Ohio Board of Nursing Rules and scope of practice for Registered and Practical Nurses.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications and Blackboard.
- Good General communication skills with students, staff, faculty and administration.
- Computer skills including word processing and e-mail.
- Good manual dexterity needed to demonstrate nursing skills.
- Effective presentation skills during lab demonstrations.
- Good typing skills.
- Able to organize, plan and deliver nursing skill demonstrations.
- Able to lead groups of students in educational exercises.
- Able to direct students in the performance of nursing skill acquisition.
- Able to objectively evaluate student's skill performance.
- Able to type reports in a timely manner.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred.
- Experience in the practice of Registered Nursing for at least two years.
- Experience in teaching nursing skills to nursing students is preferred.
- Current, valid license to practice Registered Nursing in the State of Ohio.
