Job Description:

The Digital Content Producer is responsible for producing engaging storytelling through digital articles, videos, photo galleries, social media, notifications, live streams and interactive elements. They work under the direction of the Owens OutComm Student Media Center (OOSMC) Manager and in accordance with OOSMC policies. The OOSMC is located in the Student Health & Activity Center (SHAC) in Room 156, adjacent to the Center for Fine & Performing Arts (CFPA) on the east side of Toledo-area campus.

Essential Functions:

  • Produce audience-first, engaging storytelling through digital articles, videos, photo galleries, social media, notifications, live streams and interactive elements.
  • Monitor news releases, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other online news sources.
  • Create graphics and interactive social displays for both broadcast and digital platforms.
  • Post photos/videos to station platform Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube.
  • Focus on accuracy and balance in articles and social content through copy editing and training of staff.
  • Social listening: Monitor social chatter and track trending stories. Communicate to staff.
  • Generate web traffic through Search Engine Optimization best practices, website management, app management, notifications, and application of advanced social media skills.
  • Broadcast-digital coordination: Work with all OOSMC platforms on content coverage.
  • Actively assist in OOSMC integrated media projects.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • The Digital Content Producer will have, or gain, an understanding of basic graphic design and layout, web design, and audio and video production, and some radio and television operation.
  • Candidate should possess writing, editing, proofreading and copyediting skills, demonstrate outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills, display initiative, good judgment and ability to make decisions independently and as a part of a team.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage requests from various sources while also working well with varied personalities.
  • Able to demonstrate written and verbal communication skills. Will possess competent computer skills and is willing to learn other OOSMC computer programs.

Other Characteristics / Effect on End Result:

  • Working as part of an experiential-learning focused OOSMC staff, the Digital Content Producer will be accountable for the success of OOSMC production(s) shared on OOSMC digital platforms, as well as contributing to effective and timely delivery of projects to third-party syndication/distribution outlets. This success will be instrumental in the overall ability of the Owens OutComm Student Media Center to serve Owens Community College students by providing experiential learning opportunities for participating students.

Education / Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
  • Owens Community College Student eligible for Student Employment.

Related details for the position:

  • $10.45 hourly wage, paid via direct deposit every other week.
  • Flexible working hours per week, based around scheduled coursework.
