FWS Student - America Reads Tutor (Federal Work-Study)

Job Description:

** This position is open exclusively to current Students at Owens Community College who are eligible for Federal Work-Study.

America Reads Tutors work to tutor elementary-age students in reading at local schools or other educational facilities (usually in grades K-3). The College has partnerships with local organizations who support literacy efforts in Toledo.

Tutors normally work two or three days per week, noting that consistency throughout the semester is critical to best support the Students being tutored. Please note that successful candidates will need to have their own personal transportation to the tutoring site(s).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Patience, ability to work with young children.
  • Organized, self-motivating, flexible, dependable, punctual
  • Communication: both verbal and written
  • Ability to follow instruction.

Essential Functions:

  • Tutor Elementary age students in reading at local schools or other educational facilities.
  • Must be eligible for Federal Work-Study.
  • Must pass background check(s), and may be required to also pass a TB test.

Other Characteristics:

  • Positive attitude.
  • Consistency throughout the semester.

Education / Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
  • Owens Community College Student in good academic standing

Related details for the position:

  • $11.00 hourly wage, paid every other week.
  • Maximum 24 working hours per week, but most Tutors work 8 to 16 hours per week.
