Connection Mentor candidates must demonstrate a commitment to academic excellence and leadership, and maintain a 2.5 GPA while enrolled at Owens.
Connection Mentors offer support to students, staff, and faculty based on individual needs. Connection Mentors will meet with students to share information, advocacy and support for the student, specifically providing access to on- and off-campus resources related to student financial stability.
Connection Mentors will help students make personal connections to Owens faculty and staff and student services offices on campus. Connection Mentors provide Ohio Benefit Bank Counseling to assist students in qualifying for social service benefits. Connection Mentors will also help connect students to on- and off-campus partners for volunteering and community service activities.
Additionally, Connection Mentors will operate the Owens Harvest Food Pantry, Career Closet, and Community Garden -- including the associated physical tasks of those operations.
Knowledge:
Content competency is required.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, appointment software and electronic communication.
Knowledge of internet.
Knowledge of office protocols.
Skills:
Excellent communication skills--both verbal and written.
Typing.
Word processing skills.
Experience working with databases.
Strong organizational skills.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Valid driver's license (preferred).
Abilities:
Ability to multitask with strong time management skills for working on multiple projects.
