Advertised Position Title:
Chair, Business Technologies
This position provides leadership to faculty, in curriculum development, in course and program assessment, and in other administrative areas in the Business Technologies department. Assists in recruiting for the department. Facilitates strong relationships with the area business community through advisory committees and other outreach to promote our students to area employers. Monitors faculty credentials for both on campus and College Credit Plus classes. Oversees tutoring for selected programs in the department. Assists in the development and monitoring of the department budget. Develops course schedules and assigns faculty to courses each semester.
Essential Functions:

FACULTY:
- Performs necessary functions relating to hiring both full time and adjunct faculty, such as recommending full time faculty positions to the Dean, posting of position for advertisement, preparing required hiring documents, appointing and supervising the hiring committee, interviewing, and recommending to the Dean the person for hire for the Toledo and Findlay campuses.
- Arranges for recruitment, selection and orientation of adjunct and temporary faculty for the Toledo and Findlay campuses and recommends hiring to the Dean.
- Works with Human Resources in arranging for orientation of new faculty and staff to the college. Arranges for their orientation to the department.
- Supervises departmental faculty, evaluates the effectiveness of their instruction, takes corrective measures where appropriate and recommends their rehiring, promotion, or termination.
- Prepares faculty teaching assignments including the monitoring of staffing capacity.
- Arranges for substitute teachers and prepares necessary documents related to substitute teaching.
CURRICULUM:
- Provides leadership to both the full-time and part-time faculty for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Departmental curricula and programs.
- Evaluates and revises the curriculum when necessary and makes recommendations to the Dean concerning needed changes that affect the curriculum.
- Provides leadership to the faculty in developing, reviewing, and evaluation of departmental program objectives.
- Supervises the preparation of course outlines and syllabi, prepares paperwork for submission of course and program changes to the Curriculum Committee and the Ohio Board of Regents, distributes copies to the Dean, and maintains a current file of outlines, syllabi, program documents.
- Provides leadership in textbook selection for courses in the department, prepares and submits books orders to the bookstore.
- Recommends library purchases supportive of departmental curricula and programs.
- Advises Registrar on course transfer from other institutions.
- Monitors departmental courses' adherence to transfer module and Transfer Assurance Guide guidelines.
- Coordinates and periodically reviews the development of proficiency or placement exams and recommends placement scores. Monitors the effectiveness of such proficiency or placement exams in relationship to departmental curricula and programs.
ASSESSMENT
- Provides leadership for assessment within the department curricula and programs.
- Reviews program and class level student learning outcomes.
- Prepares and/or reviews assessment reports for core competencies, programs, or curricula as appropriate.
- Prepares and/or reviews Program Review and Evaluation reports consistent with college procedures.
DEPARTMENT ADMINISTRATION:
- Develops the budgets for department and recommends approval to the Dean. Monitors expenditures within the budget. Initiates and recommends approval of all purchase orders and expenditures. Recommends student fees for labs or courses.
- Initiates communication with four-year colleges and recommends articulation agreements relative to the curricula/programs to the Dean.
- Cooperates with Enrollment Services in selected aspects of recruitment, admissions and placement of students within the departmental curricula and/or programs.
- Schedules and conducts faculty and staff meetings on a regular basis. Works with the other Chairs within the School of Business and Information Systems to improve coordination within the school and across both Findlay and Toledo campuses.
- Develops and maintains replacement plans, and recommends equipment purchases to Dean. Arranges for maintenance of equipment.
- Prepares reports as required.
- Monitors and advises on the semester schedule of classes for the Toledo and Findlay campuses and works with Chairs, Deans and other individuals across both campuses to assure that departmental courses are offered consistent with Enrollment Management plans or strategies.
- Monitors course enrollments and recommends adjustments to the schedule as necessary.
- Cooperates with Workforce and Community Services on programming opportunities.
- Coordinates schedule development, assignment of full-time faculty to courses, acquisition of capital resources, program consistency, assessment of curricula/programs offered, and recruitment of faculty on the Findlay and Toledo area campus and other learning centers.
- Participates in professional organizations to develop a liaison between the department and local, state and national agencies as appropriate.
- Promotes professional growth and professional organizational participation among both full and part time faculty.
- Establishes and maintains liaison with advisory committee(s) and convenes a minimum of two meetings a year.
- Supervises departmental assistants as assigned and the secretary, evaluates their effectiveness and takes corrective measures where appropriate.
- Monitors faculty and/or staff activities to assure deadlines are met. Specifically monitors attendance reporting and grade submission for faculty to ensure compliance with deadlines.
- Serves as a liaison to the Director of Teaching and Learning to recommend professional development needs and provide information necessary for the Learning Centers to provide support for students.
- Monitors the department web site and makes recommendations for changes, corrections or deletions of items to the Dean and appropriate department on campus responsible for maintaining the web site.
STUDENTS:
- Cooperates with Dean and Enrollment Services in arranging for the academic advising of students in the program. Participates in the advising process with students.
- Meets with students to handle problems relating to courses, program or the department. Refers problems to Dean or other appropriate individuals and offices when appropriate.
GENERAL:
- Serves on college committees and task forces as needed.
- Attends the School's Administrative Team meetings.
- Serves on the Council of Chairs.
- Other duties as assigned.
DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES (note: these are unique to the department)
- Acts as a liaison between faculty members and the Information Technology department in matters relating to software needs for department courses/programs that are needed in the classrooms and in the Campus Computer Labs.
- Coordinates training for faculty when new software is being used in the classroom.
- Manages tutoring services for the accounting and business area which includes: hiring tutors, developing tutoring schedule, scheduling tutors, reviewing tutoring reports and making necessary adjustments to tutors and schedules as a result.

Minimum Requirements:
- Master's degree
- 2 years of supervisory/management/administrative experience
- 2 years of Higher Educations instruction in business fields
