FWS - Teacher Assistant at Findlay YMCA (Federal Work-Study)

Job Description:

** This position is open exclusively to current Students at Owens Community College who are eligible for Federal Work-Study.

The Teacher Assistant interacts with children, follows directions, and completes tasks given by the Lead Teacher.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

-Child development

-Early learning best practices

-Safety

Essential Functions:

-Help to maintain the daily anecdotal records and update portfolio for each child

-Assist with self-assessments, child assessments, and environmental assessments

-Help lead teacher to implement daily lessons and prepare materials/supplies

-Perform housekeeping tasks including disinfecting toys/tables, sweeping/mopping floors, managing trash, cleaning microwave/refrigerator, and washing dishes

-Treat children with dignity and speak to them in a friendly, positive, and courteous manner

-Foster YMCA character values: caring, faith, honesty, respect, & responsibility

-Interact with children and encourage them to share experiences, feelings, & ideas

-Foster the independence of children via cleaning up toys, hand washing, etc.

-Use positive guidance techniques, such as redirection, anticipation, elimination of problems, and encouragement of appropriate behavior

-Assist in maintaining a high-quality learning environment

-Attend required meetings and training programs as requested by the Director.

-Perform other duties as assigned
