Advertised Position Title:
Tutor, Professional, TRIO Veteran Upward Bound (Grant-Funded)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Math: Working knowledge of high school and college level math and tutoring strategies. Writing: Knowledge of modern writing practices, developmental writing and composition curriculum standards and writing conventions and standard writing formats, such as MLA, APA and Chicago documentation style. Science: Working knowledge of college level science and tutoring strategies.
- Verbal and written interpersonal communication skills. Computer skills including Microsoft software.
- Ability to work independently. Ability to relate to veterans at various skill levels. Ability to be flexible. Ability to speak in public. Able to put veterans at ease and build their confidence.
Essential Functions:
- Provide direction and tutoring service to students who have skill deficiencies in math, science, reading and/or writing.
Other Characteristics:
- The candidate will need to be sensitive to the needs of at-risk students and veterans as well as maintain confidentiality of personal student and program information.
Minimum Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Experience in tutoring.
