The Construction Cost Estimator plays a key role in developing accurate electrical construction estimates that support competitive bidding, project planning, and successful project execution. This position analyzes construction drawings, specifications, labor requirements, material costs, and subcontractor pricing to deliver detailed project cost estimates while helping the organization manage risk and secure profitable industrial, commercial, and manufacturing construction projects.

DAY IN THE LIFE

As a Construction Cost Estimator, you will spend your day reviewing blueprints, construction drawings, bid packages, specifications, and technical documents to accurately define project scope and develop competitive electrical construction estimates. You will perform labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor takeoffs, evaluate supplier quotations, and utilize estimating software, historical data, and industry pricing information to prepare comprehensive cost analyses and bid proposals. Throughout the estimating process, you will collaborate with project managers, engineers, procurement professionals, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients to clarify scope, validate assumptions, and identify potential project risks. You may participate in site visits, pre-bid meetings, and jobsite walkthroughs to gain a better understanding of field conditions. Success in this role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to balance cost competitiveness with project objectives while contributing to business growth and successful project delivery.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two (2) to five (5) years of estimating experience in the electrical construction industry.
  • Experience preparing estimates across multiple construction phases and contract delivery methods.
  • Experience utilizing vendor pricing and subcontractor quotations in cost development.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, specifications, technical drawings, and construction documents.
  • Working knowledge of construction estimating databases, estimating software, and cost estimating practices.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles related to construction cost estimating.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to develop cost estimates that support project and organizational objectives.
