Job Description Summary:


The Director of Finance is responsible for leading and overseeing all financial operations for Nationwide Children’s Hospital’s Toledo, including affiliated physician services and pediatric primary care entities. This role provides strategic financial leadership, ensures regulatory compliance, and drives operational and financial performance across multiple entities. The Director serves as a key partner to operational and executive leadership, supporting decision-making through financial analysis and process improvement.


Job Description:


Essential Functions:

Financial Leadership & Oversight

  • Direct and manage all financial operations, including profit and loss (P&L) oversight for regional entities.
  • Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Monitor financial performance and identify opportunities for operational and financial improvement.
  • Participate in preparation and presentation of monthly financial reports and executive summaries to senior leadership.

Revenue Cycle & Reimbursement

  • Oversee charge capture, revenue integrity, and daily reconciliation processes.
  • Monitor reimbursement trends and investigate variances or issues impacting revenue.
  • Partner with revenue cycle teams (Ensemble Health Partners) to optimize billing, collections, and financial outcomes.

Contracting & Market Strategy

  • Collaborate in the development and negotiation of payer and provider contracts with Payer Relations department.
  • Analyze market conditions and reimbursement structures specific to the Toledo region.
  • Support strategic initiatives that differentiate regional operations from the main campus where appropriate.

Financial Compliance & Controls

  • Ensure compliance with all healthcare financial regulations, policies, and internal controls.
  • Partner with compliance and operational teams on billing audits, reviews, and special projects.
  • Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard organizational assets.

Operational Finance & Partnerships

  • Oversee financial relationships with external partners (BSMH), including management of service agreements and reconciliation processes.
  • Provide financial oversight of patient access operations and financial assistance programs.
  • Serve as the primary financial liaison with key partners (e.g., revenue cycle vendors), ensuring accountability and performance.

Physician Compensation & Productivity

  • Oversee physician compensation models, including RVU-based productivity tracking.
  • Collaborate with physician leadership to develop compensation plans and incentive structures.
  • Analyze provider performance and support alignment with organizational goals.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop finance staff to support high performance and professional growth.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage multiple priorities and projects in a dynamic healthcare environment.


Education Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field (required).
  • Master’s degree (MBA, MHA, or related field) preferred.
