Pharmacy Technician Trainee – St. Rita's Medical Center

Job Summary:

The Pharmacy Technician Trainee is responsible for providing pharmacy services, including, but not limited to preparing pharmaceuticals, performing inventory control, compliance audits, and financial transactions, providing customer service, and maintaining pharmacy records. The Pharmacy Technician Trainee works as part of an interdisciplinary patient care team, and under the direction of the Pharmacist.

Essential Functions:

  • Receiving and verifying the accuracy and authenticity of prescriptions
  • Reviewing and recording patient information with their prescription in compliance with the guidelines of the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Providing instructions to educate people on the correct way to take their medicine
  • Supporting the Pharmacist in the daily operation of the pharmacy
  • Protecting employees and patients by adhering to infection-control protocols and policies
  • Other duties as assigned

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED (required, unless enrolled in a High School Training Program)

Licensure/Certification:

  • Registration with respective State Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Trainee, if applicable (required)
  • In South Carolina: State Registered Pharmacy Tech (preferred)

Experience:

  • Previous experience working in a team environment (preferred)

Training:

Pharmacy Training Program

  • Training will continue for up to 12 months
  • Upon completion of the training period, the Pharmacy Technician Trainee will be evaluated for advancement to a Registered Pharmacy Technician or Certified Pharmacy Technician
  • This may entail an ASHP/ACPE accredited training program or an employer-based program which meets the state board of pharmacy requirements

Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to be proactive in a rapidly changing environment
  • Engage with staff and patients in a professional manner
  • Possesses problem-solving skills with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Requires knowledge of pharmacy terminology, medication names, and aseptic technique
