OVERVIEW

Join our team as a Project Executive!

This is a hybrid role based out of our Maumee, OH office. The position is salaried and includes eligibility for overtime pay.

The Project Executive is accountable for identifying, developing, and executing major capital investment projects for industrial clients within Matrix’s defined industry sectors. This role leads the full project lifecycle from early opportunity identification and scope definition through proposal development, execution, construction, and closeout.

Following project awards, the Project Executive maintains accountability for overall project performance, including safety, construction outcomes, financial results, contractual compliance, risk management, and client satisfaction. This role operates with a high degree of autonomy and requires the exercise of independent judgment in decisions that impact project outcomes, profitability, and Matrix’s exposure to risks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works in a safe manner at all times. Adheres to both Matrix and client established safety standards when appropriate. Follows all Matrix Fundamentals.
  • Identify, qualify, and pursue capital investment opportunities that align with Matrix’s strategic objectives, industry focus, and technical capabilities.
  • Serve as a gatekeeper for pursuits and projects, including participation in project qualification decisions based on risk profile, financial exposure, resource availability, and strategic alignment.
  • Establish and maintain senior client relationships, serving as Matrix’s primary technical point of contact and executive sponsor for assigned opportunities and projects.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop, document, and validate project scope, objectives, execution strategies, and commercial structures when feasible and appropriate.
  • Lead and facilitate proposal development efforts through Matrix’s integrated project teams. This will include development and validation of engineering cost estimates, coordination of procured equipment and material pricing, solicitation and evaluation of subcontractor pricing using Matrix approved bid management tools, as well as reliance on contractor qualification and risk assessment platforms to inform decision-making (e.g., BuildingConnected for bid solicitation and TradeTapp for subcontractor qualification and risk visibility).
  • Own the overall project risk profile, including safety, financial, contractual, schedule, legal, and reputational risk, while also ensuring appropriate mitigation strategies are defined and implemented.
  • Serve as the financial steward of both the client’s and Matrix’s capital investment, with direct accountability for project profitability forecasting, cost control, and cash flow.
  • Thoroughly understand, administer, and execute all contractual documents, including Client-Matrix agreements, amendments, change instruments, and subcontractor/supplier contracts, ensuring appropriate flow-down of terms and conditions.
  • Lead or participate in formal governance and phase-gate reviews, including scope validation, estimate reviews, contract reviews, and execution readiness assessments.
  • Review, approve, and lead resolution strategies for major change orders, claims, and commercial disputes in coordination with Matrix leadership and legal resources as required.
  • Ensure that all projects are executed in a manner that prioritizes safety in all forms, including personnel safety, process safety, financial risk, and contractual risk.
  • Exercise independent judgment and decision-making authority to address project issues
  • Partner with Project Management, Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Safety, Legal, and Finance to ensure coordinated execution in compliance with Matrix policies, procedures, and quality systems.
  • Select, influence, and hold accountable project leadership and key contributors assigned to projects, including mentoring project managers and discipline leads on commercial, risk-based,
  • Monitor project performance against contractual, financial, schedule, and safety objectives, and direct corrective actions as required to maintain compliance and profitability.
  • Participate in Client Capital Planning discussions and long-range investment strategies, positioning Matrix for repeat, programmatic, and strategic work.
  • Represent Matrix professionally with clients, subcontractors, and industry partners, reinforcing Matrix’s reputation for integrity, technical excellence, and safe execution.
  • Local travel or travel to alternate work sites may be required to support Matrix clients and projects.
  • Significant travel may be required at key phases of client engagement and project execution, with an emphasis on in-person collaboration to build and maintain effective client relationships.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field required
  • MBA or discipline master’s degree preferred
  • Fourteen (14) + years’ project management experience including experience with large and complex initiatives
  • PE preferred; PMP preferred

  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • This employee may perform industrial field work which could include exposure to hazardous locations, inclement weather, moving mechanical parts, noise, ladders, uneven ground, and stairs.

We offer market-competitive compensation for a Project Executive with a base range of $137,000 to $175,000 annually, and a total compensation package that includes quarterly bonuses, 401(k) matching, and overtime pay. Salaries are based on experience, skills, and qualifications.
