About the Role

We’re hiring a Roller Operator to operate roller equipment as part of a paving crew during road construction and repair projects. This is a full-time, seasonal position that plays a key part in ensuring smooth, durable, and high‑quality paved surfaces. Union membership is required for this role.


What You’ll Do

  • Operate smooth drum and pneumatic roller equipment to compact asphalt and other materials
  • Ensure proper alignment, positioning, and speed to achieve optimal compaction
  • Monitor compaction to prevent over‑ or under‑compaction and meet quality standards
  • Work closely with paving crew members to ensure smooth transitions between pavement sections
  • Conduct pre‑operation inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns
  • Keep equipment clean, fueled, and ready for use
  • Follow all safety procedures and job site regulations
  • Communicate effectively with crew members and supervisors
  • Assist with job site setup, including traffic control devices, as needed

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and standing
  • Ability to work long hours in physically demanding conditions
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Willingness to work outside normal business hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends

What You Bring

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience operating roller equipment or similar heavy equipment (preferred)
  • Basic knowledge of construction tools and equipment
  • Strong commitment to safety and quality work
  • Professional representation of The Gerken Companies on job sites
