Accountabilities:

Supervises assigned shift sanitation and QA personnel and/or third-party sanitation contractors. Ensures acceptable work performance, employee development, completion of assigned duties, GMP compliance, and appropriate documentation of performance concerns in accordance with company policy and any applicable labor agreement.

Coordinates shift QA coverage to ensure required pre-operational inspections, operational inspections, verification checks, sampling, record review, sanitation verification, and other food safety and quality activities are completed accurately and on time.

Supports the establishment HACCP plan and prerequisite programs during assigned shift operations, including pre-shipment review of applicable HACCP and production records, verification of required checks, and confirmation that corrective actions are documented before product release as required by procedure.

Interacts professionally with USDA/FSIS regulatory personnel assigned to the plant and promptly communicates regulatory observations, questions, or concerns to Quality Management.

Has authority, within company procedures, to place product or process on hold and to stop or escalate operations when a potential food safety, regulatory, allergen, labeling, foreign material, sanitation, or significant quality concern is identified.

Serves on the company HACCP/Food Safety Team, Recall Team, Food Defense Team, and other committees as assigned.

Monitors and verifies applicable SPC programs for product component weights and net weights and communicates adverse trends or results to management.

Supports the site quality system by maintaining assigned controlled documents, forms, work instructions, specifications, records, change-control documentation, and quality database information. Ensures obsolete or superseded documents are removed from use as required by procedure.

Supports supplier and ingredient qualification activities, including review and follow-up of required supplier documentation such as specifications, letters of guarantee, certificates, food safety documents, allergen information, regulatory documentation, and other records required by company procedures.

Works with Purchasing, R&D, Regulatory, Operations, Warehouse, Sanitation, and other departments to support supplier/ingredient approvals, specifications, raw material investigations, nonconformances, and assigned quality-system changes.

Supports maintenance of assigned quality databases and customer/supplier portals, including systems such as SAP, TraceGains, FoodLogiQ, ReposiTrak, SpecConnect, or equivalent systems used by the company.

Serves as a designated BACKUP/SUPPORT person for SQF, USDA/FSIS, FDA/FSMA, customer, internal, certification, and supplier audits. Assists the Quality Manager/SQF Practitioner or designated audit lead with audit preparation, document retrieval, plant-floor support, answering questions within the scope of assigned responsibilities, and corrective-action follow-up. This position is not the primary audit owner unless specifically assigned by Quality Management.

Participates in investigations, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, mock recalls/traceability exercises, supplier corrective actions, and continuous-improvement activities as assigned.

Maintains accurate, legible, and timely records in accordance with Good Documentation Practices and company procedures.

Performs other job-related Quality and Food Safety duties as needed or directed that are consistent with the scope and level of the position.

Hours may vary depending upon operational need and may include overtime, weekends, holidays, nights, or coverage of another shift.

Required Skills, Education & Knowledge:

Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, or similar science preferred. Relevant hands-on food manufacturing quality experience will be considered.

Documented HACCP training required or must be completed within the company-designated training period. PCQI, SQF, internal auditing, and USDA/FSIS training preferred based on assigned responsibilities.

Working knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, FSMA preventive controls, USDA/FSIS requirements, SQF, sanitation, document control, traceability/recall, and supplier/ingredient qualification appropriate to assigned duties.

Food manufacturing QA/Food Safety experience preferred. Supervisory, sanitation, supplier-quality, or quality-systems experience is beneficial.

Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with direct reports, peers, contractors, regulatory personnel, suppliers, and management.

Familiarity with common business software programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, with the ability to learn SAP and other quality-system software.

Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, sound judgment, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
