Basic Job Functions:
- Supervise lab Chemist Specialists. Assign daily work and development of the lab staff.
- Perform and supervise chemical analysis for quality monitoring and certification. Support production, development engineering, quality and reliability, and waste streams.
- Develop new methods as appropriate.
- Perform elemental and molecular analyses using standard instruments and methods.
- This person will be comfortable working under the direction of the laboratory manager and will be conscious of safety and data quality.
Education/Experience:
- BA or BS in chemistry, materials science or chemistry related field required
- Master’s or PhD in chemistry is preferred
- Coursework in analytical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, polymers, and/or solid-state chemistry preferred
- At least 12 years’ experience in an analytical laboratory environment or academic equivalent experience required
- Experience in an environment involving wet chemistry, inorganic chemistry, thermal analysis, and polymer analysis, preferred
Required Skills/Competencies:
- Ability to supervise specialist chemists
- Ability to train others in chemical analysis
- Functional expert in many of the analysis techniques used in the laboratory
- Demonstrated ability to accurately prepare samples, standards, and conduct analyses
- Competency in the analyses of routine materials, including polymers, semiconductors, waste and recycling stream materials, and developmental materials to effectively train lab associates
- Competency with method development, including novel materials
- Knowledge of standard software (MS Office suite, JMP. LIMS)
- Ability to use analytical skills to read charts and graphs to find trends and report conclusions to requestors and the laboratory manager
- Advanced problem-solving skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to multi-task
Essential Responsibilities:
- Manage the workflow of an analytical lab
- Responsible for routine and specialized analysis of solid and liquid materials
- Responsible for the development of new analytical methods
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot analytical instrumentation
- Keep complete and accurate records of laboratory activities
- Responsible for data management and interpretation
- Protect the integrity of test samples by maintaining a clean and orderly laboratory environment
- Work safely at all times, promptly reporting any safety issues to the laboratory manager
- Design and conduct projects to support continuous improvement
- Ensure waste materials are discarded in their designated containers
- Ensure hazardous waste containers stay closed except when adding or removing waste
- Ensure satellite accumulation containers stay in their designated locations

Estimated Annual Salary Range
- $75,000 - $95,000 Estimated Annual Salary
US Physical Requirements:
- Will sit, stand, or walk short distances for up to 8 hours per day
- Will climb stairs on an occasional basis
- May lift, push or pull up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis
- Will lift push or pull up to 27 pounds of force on a frequent basis
- Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects repetitively on a frequent basis
- 20/40 vision in each eye (with or without correction) is required.
- May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis.
- May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis.
- Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to, steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, lab coat, face shield and arm guards)
- All associates working in the lab may be required to wear a respirator at any given time and thus, the ability to wear a respirator is a condition of employment and continued employment (requires little or no facial hair)
