At The F&M, our Credit Analyst Department (‘Credit’) is a valuable resource for Commercial & Ag Lenders, Loan Committees, Management, and the Bank’s clients to create a safe and sound financial institution. Credit is a culmination of accounting, finance, economics, business law, and occasionally other academic disciplines. The Credit Department seeks inquisitive and analytical bankers to ask important questions about Borrowers’ ability to service debt and delineate proper loan structure.

F&M has a prudent and strong credit culture, and we service a wide range of credit relationships. A Credit Analyst underwrites and analyzes small- and medium-sized businesses, farmers, investors, and other individuals applying for credit. To be an effective Credit Analyst, candidates will need an understanding of tax returns, ability to read lease agreements, and spreading tax returns and financial statements. A Credit Analyst must be able to ask relevant questions to receive key information from Lenders and Borrowers, and provide strong service through timely communication with all staff. The Credit Department’s goal is to minimize loan losses, create a quality loan portfolio, and help our customers succeed.

OBJECTIVES OF THIS ROLE:

  • Serve internal customers by providing swift underwriting of Commercial and Ag loans
  • Analyze and document customer financial data for new, renewal, and existing loans
  • Provide feedback to Lenders and others in the lending function regarding loan requests
  • Help our customers and employees realize their best lives

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Spread and analyze tax returns and financial statements, including interpretation of key ratios
  • Provide accurate underwriting of client information
  • Prepare Loan Proposals for Loan Committee decisioning
  • Prepare other reports for Credit Managers and Management as needed
  • Comply and satisfactorily pass tests for bank policy and regulatory compliance that apply to position
Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; or two or more years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Accounting, Business, or Finance Major is preferred.
  • Adequate analytical and spreadsheet skills with ability to write financial summaries
  • Knowledge of accounting and tax rules
  • Ability to handle multiple ongoing tasks and communicate effectively
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Strong dedication to accuracy and efficiency
  • Strong level of ethics, trustworthiness, character, professionalism, confidentiality, and honesty
