Job Summary & Key Objectives:
The Hirzel Canning Company (HCC) Shuttle Truck Driver is a highly regarded and dedicated professional driver who will be responsible for knowing and following all Federal Motor Carrier Safety and local regulations. A person in this role is required to ensure that they perform their work in a safe, efficient, and professional manner. This person is also responsible for communication with clients/customers, internal contacts, and their direct supervisor to ensure timely pickup and delivery of all shipments and to provide superior customer service at all times.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Delivery of Goods
- Work closely with the Transportation/Dispatch Supervisor, following the prescribed weekly driver delivery schedule provided and communicate any discrepancies or issues in a timely manner
- Follow all HCC policies while making deliveries, whether to one of our sites or to a customer’s site (when in doubt ask for clarification from the Transportation/Dispatch Supervisor)
- Responsible to review all delivery orders and ensure appropriate information is recorded
- Responsible to meet all delivery times
Receiving & Delivery of Goods
- Work closely with warehouse teams whether HCC, or a select group of NWO client/customer warehouses to ensure receipt of the correct material or product
- Responsible to review all pickup orders and ensure appropriate information is recorded
- Responsible to meet pick up times
Regulations and Record Keeping
- Responsible to follow all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Association (FMCSA)/DOT regulations
- Responsible to follow all on road signage
- Responsible to keep accurate driving records whether using electronic logs or paper logs
- Responsible to carry the DOT required information with them at all times
Employee Expectations
- Must maintain a professional work appearance each day
- Able to work extended hours and Saturdays and Sundays when required (generally occurs during fresh pack season August to mid-October)

Physical Demands
- Reaching with hands and arms
- Communication through speech, hearing, and writing
- Daily requirements:
- Bending, twisting, turning, squatting, reaching below the knee, pushing, pulling, kneeling, standing, walking, and sitting
- Lifting requirements:
- Will regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Will frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
Qualifications:
- Must hold a valid CDL class “A” (air brakes) driver’s license
- Must be able to operate a forklift
- Must pass pre-employment and random drug & alcohol screenings
- Must understand and know DOT requirements
- Must have at least 5 years of safe driving experience
- Must have a clean record and solid work history operating a Semi-Tractor Trailer combination
- Good oral and written communication skills
