Hirzel Canning Company & Farms is seeking an astute Cost Analyst to assist us in making sound financial decisions.
The role involves gathering and analyzing data to estimate the time, money, materials, and labor required to manufacture our products and new projects.


Our ideal candidate is highly analytical, detail-oriented, a great communicator, and capable of providing accurate financial analysis to support our decision-making processes.


Ultimately, the role of the Cost Analyst is to ensure cost-effectiveness and efficiency in our company’s operations and projects.

JOB SUMMARY & KEY OBJECTIVES:
The Cost Analyst will be responsible for the development and maintenance of product standards costs, assisting with the preparation of the annual budget, and will act as liaison between the accounting group and management as it relates to understanding, utilizing and managing various components of the costing system. This position will include continuous interaction with operations, accounting and the management team to assist with ongoing reporting, analyzing and identifying areas for improving operations and profitability and other reporting performance indicators company-wide. The Cost Analyst will be responsible for a thorough understanding and education of others in the organization regarding standard costs and variance analysis and will perform analysis of variances to assist with production and inventory control.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Primary responsibility is to gather and analyze production and financial data.
  • Responsible for the annual standard cost update for purchased materials and produced products, and the development of new standards as necessary throughout the year.
  • Monitor and report daily production data and provide analysis of significant variances to management.
  • Regular analysis and reporting of profitability by segment, by product, and by customer..
  • Provide accurate costing data for product and overhead costs for new and existing products to assist the sales department with development of customer and product pricing.
  • Assist with development of the annual budget, including the accumulation and analysis of historical production data and costs for three operating plants.
  • Reporting and analysis of budget versus actual results to management.
  • Regular interaction with production control personnel to verify production reporting and accuracy of bill of materials.
  • Assist with periodic and annual financial closing processes and provide analysis and reporting of a broad base of management information as requested throughout the year.
  • Be a key driver of process improvement in areas of production costing, reporting, and analysis through further integration with the ERP system capabilities.
  • Identify cost saving opportunities to support advances in profitability

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or similar degree
  • Minimum of three years prior experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Must be familiar with integrated ERP systems; Sage X3 ERP product costing experience a plus
  • Advanced skills using cost dimensions of ERP software, databases and spreadsheet functions
  • Familiarization with cost accounting principles, including experience with Bill of Materials
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively share understanding of costing and analysis to various levels of company personnel as well as strong presentation skills
  • Understanding of general accounting principles and best practices
  • Must be Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
  • Experience in developing “what if” models and developing recommendations based on analysis
  • Embraces and excels in a collaborative work environment
