Project Engineer - Job Family
Generation Electric Projects & Construction
Job Summary (All Levels)
The Project Engineer is responsible for managing project engineering and detailed design activities across the project life cycle for assigned generation electric projects. This role applies engineering and project management best practices to support project initiation, conceptual engineering, engineering planning, detailed design, constructability reviews, change control, testing and acceptance, and transition to operations. The Project Engineer manages engineering scope, quality, risk, and contractor performance while ensuring engineered solutions are constructible, cost-effective, compliant with industry standards, and aligned with project objectives, schedule, budget, and safety requirements.
Core Responsibilities (All Levels)
Promote and assure a safe working environment
Apply engineering project management throughout the project life cycle
Manage development of engineered product scope and constructible project scope solutions
Ensure quality and performance of external engineering firms and Architectural Engineers (AEs)
Apply effective project and product risk management
Coordinate and review project documents and drawings with stakeholders
Utilize project management tools and PMI/PMBOK standards
Communicate engineering status, risks, and performance
Provide cost-effective engineering solutions and issue resolution
Develop and maintain Request for Information (RFI) logs
Work flexible schedules and travel as required
Valid driver’s license
Level-Specific Responsibilities
Project Engineer 1
Perform engineering duties under close supervision
Apply basic engineering theories and principles
Assist with research, design issue resolution, and risk evaluation
Interpret drawings, standards, and specifications
Prepare technical documentation and reports
Project Engineer 2
Includes all Project Engineer 1 responsibilities
Handle assignments of moderate complexity with minimal direction
Independently evaluate risks and make recommendations
Initiate corrective actions when project objectives are not met
Demonstrate enhanced project management competency
Project Engineer 3
Includes all Project Engineer 2 responsibilities
Lead project engineering activities across the full life cycle
Manage complex engineering scope, risk, and contractor performance
Mentor and guide other project engineers
Demonstrate readiness for engineering management roles
Required Qualifications
Project Engineer 1
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology from a four-year ABET-accredited college or university program
Project Engineer 2
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology from a four-year ABET-accredited college or university program
Minimum 3+ years of relevant engineering experience with demonstrated increased responsibility
Experience in an electric utility environment or heavy industrial engineering experience
Project Engineer 3
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology from a four-year ABET-accredited college or university program
7+ years of relevant engineering experience
Experience in an electric utility environment or heavy industrial engineering experience
Preferred Qualifications
Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology degree
Experience with Electric Transmission and Distribution Systems
Experience working at a generating station or major project group
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification

Salary Ranges for each level of the Project Engineer Job Family
Project Engineer 1: $69,900 - $105,000
Project Engineer 2: $82,200 - $123,200
Project Engineer 3: $96,600 - $144,900

Salary Range*:
$69,900.00 - $144,900.00*The salary offered to a candidate is based on several factors including but not limited to the candidate’s skills, job-related knowledge, and relevant experience, as well as internal pay equity.
