Join Cenovus Energy as a Senior Manager of Technical Services and play a pivotal role in driving operational excellence at our Lima Refinery. In this leadership position, you’ll ensure the site has the technical expertise, innovative solutions, and resources needed to deliver safe, reliable, and responsible operations.

This role is accountable to integrate technical engineering resources across all areas of the refinery to enable extraordinary results through a thoughtful and systematic approach to problem solving and business improvement. The Technical Services department includes engineering and technical resources for unit operations, reliability program, process development, instrument and control, control system infrastructure, laboratory, inspection and reliability services.

The Senior Manager, Technical Services position will also be a member of the Refinery Leadership Team and is expected to be a key thought leader and significant contributor on a broad range of refinery operations, leadership, and business improvement topics.

What you’ll do:

  • Leader of the Technical Services team, including strategic planning, directing, and development of employees at the Lima Refinery. Collaborate with T&P and other site technical managers to develop Technical Authorities and technical training programs to support the Cenovus downstream business and staffing needs. Collaborate to help improve technical capability to other internal and external resources to support Lima’s technical needs

  • Refinery Technical Authority for any EP deviation approvals. Work with SME and system Technical assurance organization on verifying proper assessment and approvals are done on EP deviations. Support the tracking of EP deviations and engineering standards updates needed to improve the Cenovus EP’s

  • Assures appropriate organizational capability is maintained through recruitment, personnel development, and succession planning for the department

  • Provides, develops and helps lead appropriate programs to drive best in class EHS performance with a strong focus on process safety and reliability at the refinery

  • Ensures technical functional teams are building capability both within their function, Operations, Maintenance and the Business Teams. Leverage Central Technical and Projects Teams as needed

  • Ensures that all monitoring, troubleshooting, reliability, optimization, maintenance and turnaround activities are appropriately resourced by internal, Central T&P and external resources

  • Leads a culture that finds problems when they are small and identifies cost effective and technically sound solutions. Models curiosity and chronic unease to drive early identification of problems

  • Refinery Liaison with Cenovus Technical and Projects organization as well as other sites technical organization to drive Cenovus wide learning, improvement and development

  • Coordinates with Cenovus T&P to provide appropriate refinery resources for project front end development

Who you are:

  • Legally authorized to work in the US

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required

  • 16+ years refinery and/or relevant engineering experience in progressive leadership roles required

  • Professional Engineer License considered an asset
