About this opportunity:
Cenovus is looking for a Labor Relations Specialist for the Toledo Refinery. Reporting to the Senior Manager, US Labor Relations, the Labor Relations Specialist is accountable for supporting labor activities at the designated site, including but not limited to delivering site-specific labor programs with a focus on open communication and providing proactive solutions to difficult problems facing the business. Through collaboration, partnership development, open consultation, and the provision of objective advice, the incumbent will deliver results that management will be able to sponsor and support within their appropriate environments.
What you’ll do:
- Be the subject matter expertise and support to our unionized working locations
- Consult and guide specific employee and labor relations issues or situations and matters related to the administration of contracts, employee discipline, and grievance procedures
- Develop and uphold the organizational collective bargaining agreement negotiation framework and partner with business unit leaders, and asset HR Teams, to develop a negotiation strategy for collective bargaining Identify site-specific bargaining objectives to support the overall business strategy
- Work with site leadership and Sr. Manager, US Labor Relations to assess capability for possible outcomes and develop an execution plan to deliver on the negotiation’s mandates
- Support appropriate collective bargaining training for the negotiating committees.
- Liaison between management and hourly employees by handling questions, interpreting and administering contracts and policies to assist in the resolution of Union/Management work-related problems
Who you are:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, and Business Administration from an accredited institution. Relevant experience will be considered in place of educational requirements.
- 12+ years of relatable work experience
Preferred:
- Work experience in labor relations, employee relations, or human resources management
- Possesses a strong understanding of federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations, including the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) laws, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, and relevant state and local employment laws
- Possesses relevant negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution skills to effectively manage and resolve workplace disputes and negotiate collective bargaining agreements
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are required to effectively communicate with employees, management, labor union representatives, legal counsel, and regulatory agencies
- Ability to analyze labor relations issues, identify root causes, develop solutions, and implement strategies to address complex labor relations challenges
- Ability to think strategically and develop labor relations strategies aligned with organizational goals and objectives
- Strong leadership, management, and decision-making skills to lead a team, influence stakeholders and drive change within the organization
- Commitment to upholding ethical standards, maintaining confidentiality, and adhering to professional codes of conduct in all labor relations activities
