Job Title: Application Engineer

Reports To: Sr Engineer

Job Status: Salary

Job Locations: Bryan, Ohio

Basic Job Functions:

Altenloh, Brinck & Co. US, Inc. manufactures and distributes engineered fasteners under the SPAX® brand for the construction market, TRUFAST® for the commercial roofing industry and TRUFASTWalls® for exterior building envelopes and facades. The Application Engineer is responsible for providing subject matter expertise (SME) to the organization and our customers regarding product application and performance expectations. This includes evaluation, testing, troubleshooting, and training for existing and new product applications. The Application Engineer also assists building code approvals for new and existing products through in-house and 3rd party laboratory testing. A successful Application Engineer will help provide Altenloh, Brinck & Company U.S., Inc. with a competitive advantage in developing new products for its respective market segments and industries.

Essential Responsibilities:

Testing and 3rd Party Test Lab Management

  • Construct and coordinate in-house and 3rd party testing ensuring product design specifications are achieved.
  • Procure test materials from vendors and customers for system assembly tests.
  • Manage test program deadlines to achieve on-time completion of product testing and approval listings.
  • Provide OEM customer support for 3rd party laboratory construction and testing.
  • Manage customer requested materials for their testing needs.
  • Assist with private label listing agreements and approval listing updates (FM, NEMO, UL, Miami Dade, etc.)

Product Application and Technical Support

  • Provide job and/or customer site training, troubleshooting, and support when needed.
  • Provide expertise in failure analysis of fastening components, systems, and sub-systems.
  • Provide technical assistance to manufacturing, sales/service, and customers concerning product performance.
  • Answer technical support calls from external customers and inside sales team.
  • Manage pull test reports with field service team.

Product Development

  • Assist product engineers with development, testing, and field support of new products.
  • Act as a liaison between customer and internal and/or external resources.

Documentation

  • Maintain a clear and prioritized task list for all project details.
  • Develop test reports and keep organized in testing database.
  • Verify customer complaints and product performance issues are documented in QT9 (quality assurance system).

Position Requirements

Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field.
  • 4 years of experience working in construction and/or engineering test lab environment

Required Skills/Competencies:

  • Good communication and analytical skills to interface with customers, marketing, sales team, and manufacturing.
  • Strong multi-tasking ability/Adaptable to changing priorities
  • Must enjoy and be successful with working on a variety of dynamic projects
  • Knowledgeable about construction and roofing products
  • Knowledgeable about building codes, standards, and approval listings
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes (cold-forming, stamping, machining, injection molding)
  • Ability to read and understand test standards and conduct the testing
  • Good construction and fabrication skills (able to build test samples and roof decks)
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite programs
  • Demonstrate proficiency developing and maintaining project timelines

Travel:

Ability to travel to job sites, test laboratories, industry associations, etc. (up to 40%)

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand and lift 50 lbs throughout an 8-hour day.
